EP3 CTR 05'

Keep hearing about Tein fast road set ups. Seem to be a few kits about with top and bottom adjustments, and damper adjustments. Can someone reccomend me a kit and a place to have it fitted. I phoned someone awhile ago and they quoted 1700 for it bought fitted and laser alignment... seems expensive as the most expensive kit i have seen is 900, (others are about 550-700).

Also is the damper adjustment really nessecery? I had it on my old mini but never adjusted them (they where a bh to get at). I can see the virtues of softening the dampers whilst cover long distances if its just a flick of the screw driver...

The reason i want a kit is the back of my civic is very "bouncy" so i think the shocks are not right, and if i am going to replace them then i might as well treat my self..... wink Anyone else had a bouncy arse in there ep3?

So help please, i am based in south kent so would like somewhere close.

Cheers

Gwiz

So i want:

Fast road suspension kit
Garage to fit it
Laser alignment

Price (so i don't get mugged!)

EP3s have some weird suspension setup where the back is set much harder than the front, contrary to most FWD setups. This would explain the bouncy rear end, and AFAIK, all aftermarkets systems will be the same way.

as to why the EP3 has this setup, I have no idea. Anyone got an insight?

Probably to give it its characteristic lift-off oversteer when turning in.
Unless they are fitting Tein TDFC, alignment is a £50 job.
Equally, if the drop is more than 30mm, additional parts are needed to dial out the excess camber.

Might be worth your while having a read/chat on www.civictype-r.co.uk

PJS whats TDFC?

Dont want to lower it really but have heard brilliant whispers about a "fast road set up" which is tein coil overs so have inbuilt shocks...

10p Short? Thoughts?

Sorry, meant EDFC (damn fingers!) - but since the EDFC isn't available for the EP3, then it's a moot point.
For the money they're asking, I wonder if it's the mono flex?
Either way though, I think there's as good as, if not better than Tein out there - spend time, not money in researching the whole gamut of options, then decide rather than plumb purely for a brand name.

In fact, I feel very confident in recommending http://www.amrengineering.com/proddetail.html?veid... as a better option over Tein, especially as you can specify the spring rates you'd prefer or discuss with them what you're looking for.

'Fast Road Setup' has nothing to do with Tein at all.

It's simply a max power way of describing geometry alignment. Basically the amount of toe-in/out on standard cars, or if you have adjustable camber bolts fitted, them the degree of camber you have dialed in as well.

TBH unless you're doing a lot of trackdays, coilovers are a bit of a waste of money. Eibach/Spoon/Tein springs, camber bolts, and a good geometry set-up will transform the car, without the expense of coilovers. EP3's do have 'bouncy bums' so I'd guess your dampers are still fine...

If you do go for coilovers, be VERY careful of the spring rates, as some are incredibly hard...

Tom and the team at TGM are EXCELLENT, but don't call it 'fast-road' to him!! hehe

After doing a bit of research it seems someone was trying to over sell me something. How much would a spring set up be then? Linky Revsaddiction?

cheers to everyone so far... keep it coming.

Spoon / Tein springs +/- £200. Eibach are cheaper, and probably just as good, if not better.
Camber bolts about the same.
Fitting you'd need to speak to Tom...

I think it's because the rear suspension is a trailing arm set up, whereas the front is a strut. So, what that means is the spring rate at the front is the actual spring rate felt at the front. But the spring rate at the back sees a lever effect, so what is felt is softer than the actual spring rate.
Therefore, if the front springs are 6kg/mm and the rear are 8kg/mm, the front is probably still more stiffly sprung than the rear.

Try sitting on the tailgate, then sitting on the front slam panel. Does the front dip more than the rear?
I'd doubt it would.

No wonder my tyres haven't been changed or my geo checked. You are lucky to speak to him for 30 mins!
