Honda Reliability
Discussion
Over the last year ive completely neglected my car, barely cleaned it and the only service its had is an oil change.
So MOT time came around this week and I was expecting a full page of things that needed fixing.
But no.. passed with no faults at all
Not bad at all for a 15 year old car.
So tomorrow im going to treat the old girl with a full service and a propper waxing
Sorry for posting a pointless thread but im very pleased

Yes but Ameer, we don't actually know yet if there is anything wrong with your car, other than either a loose wire or possibly an over-sensitive ECU.
That said, I would still suggest that the most MECHANICALLY reliable Hondas are those from the 1990s - impeccably built, and with few-enough 'fancy' electrics (or overly-electrically-controlled engines) that there shouldn't be many worries there.

I have had over 70 Honda cars (and 5 bikes) and not one has ever missed a beat or let me down despite being abused at every opportunity.
SWMBO has had 7 Honda cars (and 1 bike)and only ever replaced consumables, pads, tail pipe, and 1 battery (for which I got the blame for leaving the tailgate open for 2 days)
For the first time since 1990 I have just bought a car that was not a Honda.
I bought the Mrs a Mazda 5.

Just considering now what to replace my ATR with.
A very difficult question indeed.Possible replacements include.
Mazda 6 MPS
Merc C32 AMG Saloon or Avant
Merc C55 AMG Saloon or Avant
E39 M5
E46 M3
Audi S4 Avant
Audi S3 Sportwagon
New JDM Civic Type-R
I have about 18k to spend, the budget could possibly be extended for a newish S3 but I will loose 10k in the first 12-18 months.
Insurance isn't an issue, reliability is so warranty costs need to be considered. I quite fancy a big barge, fuel card from work should cover the fuel so its just servicing. Out of the list of cars up there, there are some potentially big bills. At the momement the car is only being used for private milage with a bit of buisiness so say 10k a year, if I move back to the car for work as opposed to the train then it could go back to 20k a year.
Have I missed anything that provides large amounts of grunt, reasonable road handling compared with the ATR and equal or more space?

A friend of mine picked up his E46 M3 about a month ago and for the past week as been back at the dealer who is scratching his head over why it is misfiring. So far the coilpacks and ECU have been changed.
I got 40k miles out of my Teg with some fairly spirited driving. As long as you keep oil and water in them they go forever.
I am in the same boat where I need to get a new car when the insurance money comes through and the same friend is trying to convince me to get a M3. For the same money I could get a 350z with under 30k miles rather than a 65k+ M3 which I will need to keep paying a warranty on year in year out so I don't get any 4 digit bills when it decides to collapse like the western front.
Of course I could get an early NSX...

I've got a Civic VTi Aerodeck, I 've had it coming up for 2 years and all I've done is service it and do the brakes. It regularly gets red lined through the gears, every week I check the oil, every week its in almost identical place and in almost identically golden condition. I had mini's before this... Can you imagine the shock to my system!
The missus rather likes it so I feel it maybe time to add an ATR to the stable
