2003 Civic alternator problems?

I've got a 2003 1.6 Civic and the battery warning light on the dash has come on today. I've checked the charge of the battery and there is some there, although it doesn't seem to be charging up while the car is being used. Also the car cut out while sat in traffic, it started again first time though. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced simular problems and if I am right in thinking this is a fault with the alternator? Any advice would be appreciated.
