Part Ex'd my 04' S after 4 years of ownership in February and bought a 350z (313) GT Roadster, the only thing I missed about the 'S' was the slick gearbox.

This soon changed once I got used to the 'Z', haven't looked back since... and the 'S' was a very good car......

Go on treat yourself.............

What you changing it for? I'm looking at getting rid of mine soon but can't find anything that interests me much yet.

This in interesting and hopefully I may get some ideas.

I'm looking for new car, 10k, ish and the S in high on my list, 'what car' here oif your interested. http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

Just wondering, from people looking to get rid or who already have, what would you recomend, I love the styling of the S, just don't know how much I like the idea of reving everywhere.

A 350Z is also high on my list.

Cheers.

I'd be going for the coupe if the Z was my option.

Just wondering what people think is a good option, from past experience and after owning an S.

Let's not start an argument. But, I do prefer the coupe, just my preference.

But, Qube, in your opinion whats the better car, I know each will have it's advantages and disadvantage and be better in different areas, but, where would you spend your 10K ish after owning both?

Also, did you consider the Z4, 3.0?

Never considered the Z4 due to car ratings on TV shows like Top Gear and the fact that there's to many around... I prefer a car for what it is, not the idea that it could be a 1.2, 1.4, 1.9, 3.0 or turbo model etc.. BMW and Audi have spoilt it me, that's why they offer the option to have the car debadged.... why ???..

I considered buying an Audi S3 but the test drive soon put me off with the vague steering and the boucy suspension over potholes (get the sick bag).. I also considered a Boxster 2.7, too underpowered and overpriced..

Going back to your question about owning a S2000 or 350Z it depends as a buyer what do you want, or what are you looking for in a car ?.

I'll break it down a bit..

S2000 - After test driving a S2000 at the local Honda dealer, I was hooked. We bought our ex demo 'S' in April 2005, what a day it was couldn't too pick it up. We owned an Audi A3 170 Sport previously and thought the 'S' would replace the excitement we had in the Chimaera but with more reliability.. The 'S' was a joy to drive, again there was hardly any 'S' cars around where we lived so it was nice to be different.. The car was brilliant the slick gear box and free revving engine was easy to explore on open roads.. The Vtec engine took some time to get used to due to the low torque (here we go, the petrolheads will start to rant), yeah low torque, aargh the idea is to match the gear ratio with a specific engine rpm.. 40mph - 2nd gear, 60mph - 3rd gear, 80mph - 4th gear, etc this took some time to get used too and felt enjoyable. Getting the engine to scream to 9000rpm with agile handling the car felt addictive to drive on country roads. Later we added a strut brace which made the car feel better at the front end and an induction kit to exploit maximium noise at full chat.. For some reason after fitting the induction kit we had a tendency to locate any tunnels in the vicinity to enjoy the engine at 9000rpm..

As time went on the 'S' was starting to become a bind the low torque engine became more tiresome combined with the thrashing sound of the drivetrain on the motorway (can't hear yourself speak, although hear the radio or cd) and the forever need to thrash the engine to get any power out of it.. If you love revving a car all day long then buy a S2000..

It was time too move on..

350Z - Big, Fat brute car with 309bhp on tap.. say no more... just what the doctor described. No more waiting for anything to happen. not as agile as the 'S' but more power without the frustration.. much quieter on the motorway and more comfort.. I must be getting older, lol..

This car is more like the TVR I once had...

As mentioned earlier, they are both good cars, it depends on what your preference is...

To me the 350Z is my choice...

Buy another one and supercharge it!
419 BHP should be enough!

Another thread already running on that one.

Front runners are:-
NSX
Elise/Exige
E46 M3
...probably in that order. Not an everyday car as I still have my 'teg...so it's got to be something rwd, n/asp and 'involving'.

Outsiders are:-
C5 or C5 Z06 (LHD, try finding a manual)
Caterfield (love 'em but they're totally anti-social (in the context of me and Mrs Havoc), and it'd be difficult to do a road-trip in one... wink )
996 or Cayman (pretty-much discounted due to extortionate used-car warranties and a poor attitude from Porsche GB...)

TVR's (too big a risk, no warranties) and 350Z (too mundane in this company) already discounted. Did briefly consider Garlick's RS2 too (OK, doesn't fit many criteria but they're a legendary car...).
