Hi,

We have just inherited a Honda Jazz. I have just been examining the Service History, it appears that it was serviced on 04/05/07 at 4,445 miles and then again on 02/05/08 at 6564 miles. Was that service needed? 2119 miles does not seem like enough to warrant one. It was serviced by a main Honda dealer. I would have thaught any dealer worth his salt would have advised that it didnt really need a service. The car belonged to an old lady who would have gone along with what ever the dealer recomended.

What do you think?

I would think that certain things degrade over time whether the car is used much or not.

A low mileage like that would probably mean a lot of short stop start journeys so worth an annual check to make sure things are OK.

Certain "things" can "go" at anytime so worth a yearly check just so any potential problems are spotted before they happen (and become expensive).

Just a way of cashing in with the dealer stamped log book.

If your doing mileage ie 12k-24k then the car would benefit from a service, if the same car has done minimal mileage then it would not benefit from a service.

Manufacturers always put in the log books:

"Service interval 12k - 14k or 12 months"

Lets not forget some people are unable to check fluids etc so chuck it in the garage and the car makers cash in on this.

My Honda has coolant designed for 80K, as long as the oil is decent then there should not be any problems.

I believe Honda dealers have the option of redoing the first service (less expensive) if the car hasn't done many miles/isn't likely to reach the mileage for the 2nd service in the next year of so.

Perhaps that is what they did?
