car smoking when v-tec kicks in help!!!!!!
Discussion
i have a 1995 civic dy16 when u boot it it starts smoking just after the v-tec kicks its like a grey/blue colour but it doesnt do it all the time also its fine if driven normally and even when started first thing in the morning i did give it a service when first got it the lad i had it off never bothered the oil was like water and when took the fuel filter off the petrol was black ive bin told it could be the valve stem seals but not sure also if i flush the engine and put fresh oil and filter on would this solve it
yeah checked the oil it seems ok just wondered if its cause it hasnt bin serviced for a while till i got it its strange cause it doesnt do it all the time like the other day i drove about 40 to 50 miles and it didnt smoke once yet went out today and its doing it straight away also it doesnt smoke when its cold always when the engines warm !!
My 'lude burns a little oil when VTECing but not to the extent that you can see smoke out the exhaust. Valve stem seals could be a cause, as could piston rings. Doing a compression test will let you know if you've got a good seal or not in the combustion chambers, so I'd start with that.

Honda engines over oil when running in vtec, therefore some will be burnt.
Its not a 2-stroke!Never heard that when I worked for them. No 4 stroke is "designed" to burn oil. Might be a characteristic, but not by design - more caused by wear.

My prelude dosent burn any oil.
16years old and 51k miles
Once I have done 4-6k miles (thats about 6months of driving) I change the oil.
Never have to top it up
Lucky you never got one with the porous liners.... Empty the sump long before the first service and no sign of where the oil went!16years old and 51k miles

checked the oil yesterday and it was belowe the minimum so toped it up but i only had it serviced a couple of months ago dont understand it it drives fine apart from the smoke
Have you not got an idea yet on how quickly it is using the oil between the top and bottom marks on the dipstick? If you carry on using it below the bottom mark I am pretty sure the bearings in your engine are not going to thank you!
Just get the piston rings replaced/checked.
