Hi
I seem to have one tyre running warmer than the rest, off-side rear, after a run you can smell hot tyre rubber and this one feels warmer/hot to the touch (not tried a infrared thermo but might).

Also getting a throbbing whoa whoa sound at some speeds, checked bearing for play all fine no bulges in sidewalls or tread, tyre/rim seem to run true with no obvious warping, balancing weights still stuck in-place, pressures OK.

Any thoughts?

Check your rear calipers they could be sticking.
Had/have the same problem with mine . I unstuck the bolts a few weeks back but i really need to grease them properly .
Is it a pre facelift? In fact ive a feeling the rear calipers are the same on the pre and the newer ep3.

I get the same smell in mine after some faster road driving - all you can smell is rubber.

I presumed it was perhaps the balancing/geometry or the wheels that may have been the cause. I cannot find any signnificant wear at any corner which backs this up though.

The noise you get a speed from the rear was explained to me as the torsion diff which is fitted...there was further engineering talk after this but I did not understand. I was recommended to use directional tyre designs to reduce the noise rather then block design rubber. Seemed to work, especially on the M-ways.

Hi, this smell at the rear like burning was bugging me for ages and new my brakes were fine. Had it on the rolling road not so long back and was stood watching and could see steam/smoke rising out from the wheel well with that smell. Was talking to the mechanic about it and recons it is nothing to worry about just the cat / back box getting very hot. Apparently a de-cat would sort this but not really needed as not in itself a fault.

Try taking it for a run on a rolling road and you will be amazed how hot it gets and also how obvious it is that this is where it is coming from and not your brake (I was shocked to say the least, for a moment thought it had caught fire lol).

My EP3 used to suffer with this problem - rear caliper on the nearside was often sticking and the obvious heat issues occured.

To the OP - get the caliper opened up and free the moving parts. Copper grease can be used but obviously avoid getting any onto the disc or pads contact areas. smile
