Im looking to get a Type-R and have about £5k, maybe a stretch to £6k.

Ideally im looking for 05 plate or 2005 54 plate however I only seem to be able to find Cat D's that have been repaired and claimed to be "perfect driving."

What is the max mileage on CTR's and would a 02-04 plate cause me more trouble than its worth. (Mum has a Jazz thats an 02 plate and it has had a few problems - leaking window, rear window not working, humming noise coming from somewhere)

What would you recommend for me? Would like it to last a good 3-5 years without too much hassle. May possibly fit a AEM V2 induction kit to it if I have time and can afford it

for that money your looking at 60k on 01' plate. if you up to 7k you can get a low milage prefacelift or high milage facelift.

i just bought mine in december for 9750 with a 500 PX on my ka for a 05' 20k FHSH cosmic grey Ep3 CTR.

They are very reliable, planning on keeping mine for 3-5 years. Just keep a eye on things....

How are Cat D's?

I've found a few that say they drive perfectly and have been repaired quite well. How can I tell if the will be reliable etc?

I don't mind getting a cat D as long as they dont cause me a lot of hassle on repairs etc in the future.

We bought a Jazz 4 years back which wasn't a cat D but the rear window no longer works as water was leaking into the car. Turns out the waterproof sheet inside the door had been torn and now the cars making a strange humming noise.

Anyway, what would you say? I've seen a cat D with 18k miles for a 54 place

EDIT: What year was the facelift? Would an 2003- 03 reg model at 40k miles for £4,200 be a good deal? How long do you think it would last etc

There are so many around you'll struggle to sell a Cat-D on, and a dealer will give you rock-bottom for it in p/ex. So I wouldn't.

Worth stretching to a facelift if you can, I believe - think they fixed a few of the pre-04 niggles on it. But doubt your budget will reach.

Will an older car cause problems? Possibly...some will be impeccable, some will be a nightmare, many will be in-between. I'd join the CTR forum and search through it for buyers guides and ideas of common faults.

Face lift was 04' onwards. They tweaked suspension, lightened fly wheel (knocked .2sec off 0-60) better body kit, air con as standard (was a 1k option) and a few other bits and bobs. If i where you i would look for a 02 plate at 5k with FHSH and 60-100k on the clock. The key is regular and appropriate servicing and the body work to be in good order. Have you checked insurance for this car it is group 17, so could be anything from 450-1500 notes.......

98-00 EK9 CTR, they are the only type r worth owning imo, get a bit soft and breadvan-esque after the EK9

Yeah, but that's a hardcore go-kart. It's a great car, but probably a little too extreme for your average punter.

I'm on 'teg #2, and even I found the EK9 to be hard work...
