Thinking of a 2006 Tourer

Has anyone driven both engine variants and have any opinions ?

TIA

Get the 2.4. The 2.0 is wheezy by comparison and you'll spend more of your time with the foot to the floor, negating economy benefits.

Definitely the 2.4 - although even it's fairly asthmatic below 3K rpm.

Just for your info- I ran a 2.4 Type-S for well over 100,000 miles and it was the most faultless car I've ever run.

ive got a 2.4 tourer had it a few years now. it has been faultless apart from the drivers seat started to move very slightly perhaps only 1 or 2mm when you go around islands or under heavy braking this developed at around 30K miles.
So we took it back to honda who said wear and tear and wanted to charge £750 for new runners.
so we just put up with it now.

be prepared for the high fuel costs though our other car is a 6litre monaro which only does a few miles to the gallon less.

My 2,4 Tourer is the best car I have ever owned smile

Had it from new in Sept 2004 and it's been completely faultless. Now done about 60k. We have no plans to change it in the future either, which is most unlike me.

Agree about the comment regarding fuel economy (or lack of!)

I got a 2.4 type-s after selling the s2000 (baby), and its not a bad car.. No trouble (well for some reason the battery just dies every 6 months, but then the same battery works again for ages after a charge).

It is a bit gutless under 3K, and the vtec cuts in too late, and it does seem to have 190bhp.. It does, as expected go quite well around the bends, but really could do with at least 230/250bhp.

It has a really nice gearchange, its just a shame there was not type-R model.

There are no cheap mods, if looking at that, I don't even know of a chip? (anyone correct me).

But as mentioned, for faultless motoring, its just great, as the wife uses it with the kids it fitted the bill after 40K miles hammering the s2000 without a glitch, ignoring tyres.

No chip - Hondata can supply a new ECU unit, but being as there's a difference between their Acura TSX's and ours, we lose something or a warning light displays on the dash.
If you're looking an R version, you'd be looking at the Euro R (K20), with plenty of scope to play with output from TODA, Spoon, Mugen, Feel's, etc.
Unfortunately grey import only though.

IIRC, was there not a Japanese only type R called the Euro R with the K20A?

Yes, there was. Considering the cost of importing one with the current regulations, you'd probably be better off buying an early high mileage Type-S 2.4 over here and fitting K20 head and parts to the engine and Euro-R suspension.

Everything about the Euro R except the engine obviously, is identical to the 2.0 and 2.4 models from '03 to '07 - so anything stated as for the CL7, will fit the CL9, and vice versa.

Anyone owned the 2.0 petrol? I have a 2.5 petrol mazda 6 at the moment, but looking to get something a little bit cheaper, as need all the cash i can to move house.
I don't really care about the performance, the wife uses it mainly to drop our 2yr old to nursery, then go work, all town driving, so no need for grunt.
I know the tax is a tad more on the 2.4, but there does seem to be more 2.4 models for sale. I'd rather a 2.0 if poss.

If anyone has owned the 2.0, could you give me any advice please?

I have thee 2.0. Boring in a word. Its gutless until the VTech kicks in at which point it feels ok. Until you look at the MPG. Drive it slowly and you can get reasonably MPG, drive it spiritedly and the MPG is crap. I got better MPG out of my Audi A6 2.4. The SE model is short on toys but is a fair bit cheaper than the Executive.

On the plus the boot (Tourer) is huge, it looks quite nice from the outside, is fairly comfortable, and in two and half years of owning mine nothing has gone wrong with it at all. Tyres and brake pads are all that I have changed. It also has a sunroof as well as climate control which seems rare in cars these days.
