I would be guessing a couple of grand. I had a Jordan edition new and no problems at all. They are good engines but the chassis is not up to the job as a hot hatch.
Check usual, cambelt changes and service history. Vtec should cut in about 5200 revs. Calipers can sieze on Hondas, especially the rears. Sometimes engine warning lights point to a problem with sensors in the distributer which can be pricey.
