Thinking of buying a Honda Accord Type R
Discussion
Hi mate,
I have owned an Accord Type-R and its been a pleasure.
Having driven a Civic Type-R and obviously the Accord, the difference is vast.
The accord is much more "hardcore" and direct, the EP3, while nice to drive, just isnt the same,
Got my one up for sale at the moment

Just had it rolling roaded today at 237 BHP too
open to offers.

Welcome to come and view if your interested,
The performance mods to mine are:
K&N Typhoon long arm induction kit
Decat
Decat back twin exit stainless steel exhaust system
Lightened flywheel
Uprated clutch
Only got the above two as the gearbox was out to have the common 5th gear synchro done.
One thing i would be concerned about with the CTR is that a lot of owners dont have a clue how to look after their cars....Most ATR owners are enthusiasts, while you always seem to see CTR's being driven be bell ends around the local town "circuit"!!
Having the front end resprayed on mine in the next couple of weeks cause of stone chips, and am open to offers on my pride and joy as its time for a change!

Having owned an EP3 Civic Type-r for 6 months and an ATR for about 18 months I can confirm that the ATR is by far the more superior car.
I found the ride in the Civic worse and I felt more "disconnected" from the drive than in the Accord. After 6 months the Civic had ground me down and I had to sell it, the seats were terrible for me, no 2nd gear in the cold, VTEC zone far less pronounced and we just couldnt gel.
The accord on the other hand felt like an event whenever I drove it, when started up the high idle metalic rasp of the engine made me smile every time. The ATR has an LSD (which the Civic doesnt) and on tight corners you could just plant the accelerator and it would drag you round the corner.
The only downsides to the ATR was the image and the interior.
If I could find anther like mine (which I only sold due to getting a company car) then I would buy it. Mine was a 99 reg in Pirates black with a/c, FHSH and 55k miles (this was in 2004) bought from a Honda dealer.

I bought an ATR a month or so ago, and I'm very happy with it. There are some potential problems to be aware of though, have a poke around on http://www.accordr.org/ before you buy a car - lots of useful information to be found.
Go drive one. Go drive a CTR. See how they both "feel" to you. Drive over speed bumps, drive over normal roads. Drive on the motorway.
If you like twisty roads, the LSD can make a difference, particularly in the wet.
Personally, the cars can be somewhat fragile, in terms of they do need more TLC than a regular Accord. Get the engine checked for oil leaks.
For the money, they are a real HOOT. Relaxing for a long distance cruise, and fun round the twisties, plus good value to buy.
