Short Shift Gearcahnge for Honda S2000
Discussion
Hi, and thanks for the suggestion.
As we were facing a deadline, we decided to bite the bullet. We took the lever off the gearbox and took out an inch of the tubed length (two accurate sawcuts through the tube an inch apart), re-welded it, then welded two halves of a washer either side of the base to eliminate the remaining "rubbery" float.
Then we took the car out for a roadtest. Proper result ! "Snick snick" gearchanges, and no nasty vibration or rattling.
Don't know whether this would work in a standard Honda S2000 as there may be issues with the height of the gearknob above the console. If not, its a very good revision because the gearchange is really accurate after this mod !

Hi Havoc,
The Skelta has a Honda S2000 engine with a Honda 6 speed gearbox mated to it. The lever was too long and the change was too easy to "fluff" - because of the leverage that the length allowed to be exerted. This mod has made the change riflebolt accurate and the Skelta has benefited.
What's a Skelta ? Australian Road and Track car built to win the Targa Tasmania (6 day 2000 km tarmac rally). Came 3rd out of 300 entrants last year, which included every significant competitor from Ferraris through Porsches, Mustangs, Skylines, Corvette C6 Z06s. loads of specials and many of these factory sorted. Got knocked 7 seconds and demoted to 4th for stopping to help at an accident - and that put a works Porsche onto the podium.
Last weekend, a Skelta placed 2nd on the Noosa Hill Climb. That's Australia's equivalent of Prescott or Shelsley Walsh. The only car that beat Ray Vandersee out of 138 entrants was a single seat racecar.
May not be particularly pretty - but its very effective. There will be one at the London Motorsport Show this weekend. So, if you want to see what a 320 bhp supercharged Honda S2000 in a 700 kg sportscar with full aerodynamic ground force can do, why not pop along to Brands Hatch ? Entry is £12 at the gate. The Skelta will be in the Pits - Stand E-27. Come and have a chat !

Looks interesting as a track/race car but £60k seems a bit rich in my book and you are right, it's not really a looker

Hi Healey 73,
The price is actually £55,000 for the Supercharged version and £52,500 for the normally aspirated version.
There is a new nose on the UK demonstrator now, which improves the car's looks a lot. I will post a photo tomorrow.
Didier Droghba (spelling ?) isn't as pretty as Ronaldo, but he is still pretty effective !

Ah..."ugly but well-hung"!
Apologies chap - I read Skelta and didn't connect it with Snoopy's ugly brother ( ), thought it was just a tuning company's S2000 project-car!
...which makes sense now...linkages can be a b'gger to transfer from car to car...
As for the car itself...probably very good, but even without those looks it's overpriced...£50k is M3 and Noble territory (depending on which direction you want to go), and stuff like an Exige SC, Z4M, and 'vette C6 all fall under that price-bracket too...
