as a road car or daily driver, which is better (per buck)?

obviously a good DC5 can be obtained for £5k less (or thereabouts), has a useful boot, similar but better to the last CTR, but is the FD2 that much better in terms of dynamics?

I've not driven an FD2, so I could be talking bks, but I'd guess that the FD2 is probably a bit quicker in any given situation, with more power and more grip... however, I find it difficult to believe that it would be any more fun, possibly I think the DC2 might be more fun as its likely to be older and rawer, and is certainly quite a bit lighter too.

Both great cars though I'm sure. The FD2 is a newer and more modern car though, so is probably more liveable day to day and is going to need less TLC than a teg.

3 FD2 topics in one go, what's the analogy with buses? biggrin

2 very similar but very different cars you are talking about there, I have driven both and own one of them.

Practical side - DC5 has a large hatchback style boot so is great for transporting things around; Furniture, mountain bike whatever. The FD2 has a HUGE boot but as it is a saloon you have the classic saloon opening to contend with - this means you won't get a mountain bike in the back for example, but it will happily swallow up many other things. You also get the benefit of full access to the rear with it being a 4 door but the seat do not fold due to the car being braced. The FD2 is also a very firm car, so day-to-day the DC5 is more supple. Your driving style and preferences will dictate which is better for you but that would be the slight negative with the FD2 for some people.

Performance - very similar. The FD2 is the more powerful car but day-today on the roads you might not really notice much difference, however the differences do start to appear when on a spirited drive or on track. Throttle response is slightly better, more power low down and available up top.

Handling - big difference here I think. Whilst both cars have LSDs, the FD2 is able to get the power down better, is more precise on turn in and has mind boggling levels of grip. This is where the stiff chassis comes in to play. Not to say the DC5 is lacking on the handling front, it is a fine car but does play 2nd to the FD2

For an outright drivers car the FD2 is the clear winner; There is a big difference in price between the 2 though and I think that will play a big part in the decision. As mentioned the DC5 is a fine car and a great buy considering what you can pick one up for, I was very impressed with both handling and performance and test drove the two cars back to back. A number of ppl have sold their DC5s to get an FD2, and they describe it as a DC5 cranked up to 13.

If you have the cash then I would say it is a no brainer - get the FD2. If you don't have that much to spend go for the DC5.
