New Civic Type R - Spec Advice ??
Discussion
Hi guys,
Am taking the plunge and currently speccing a new type-R from the dealer.
What options etc should I be looking at ?
Am going for GT spec to get aircon, cruise control and the other goodies etc.
I'll get the iPOD connection I think, is it any good ?
Other than that, whats you thoughts on SATNAV & the 19" wheels ?
Any other options I should look at ??
Thanks in advance, looking for someone who's specced one already.

I've just brought my wife to be one
First off are you paying the list price for the car ?
Go for a GT spec car
I found the 19"s gave a harder ride but they did have rubbisb yokos on, that have super stif sidewalls
Sat nav well you cant take it indoors to plan your trip like a tom tom
Ipod is worth while , check the top part of the surround as the plastic can break when the centre concole is removed to fit the docking kit
Footwell lighting is cool
Mats should be free twist salesmans arm
City pack is nice also
Black is the colour to have

Thanks guys good info.
One of the main reason's I'm considering the Type R is that I need back seats (currently have a two seater which has to go due to practicality issues!). Its a car that I'll have till March, then I'm passing it on to my g/f, her car goes back in March.
I'd tend to agree that black is the best colour on the car (red is a bit girly for my tastes!).
I'm being offered a deal i can't refuse on the car, around £16k for the GT otherwise I'd consider holding out for the special edition but I suspect that'll be closer to £20k
With regards to the wheels, again good advice on the tyres.
Personally I don't think the 19"s as an upgrade are worth the £1250 that Honda want, I can get better wheels with superior tyres for less as an aftermarket fit !
iPOD connector is a definite for me as thats where all my music is kept. Needs to be the GT as I can't do without aircon and cruise control.
Thanks for the help guys, going to spec it this weekend

friend of mind has one with the 19s which look very nice but damn thats a hard ride, his is dark bronze or something similar and has the sat nav which boosts the interior no end on those cars.
its an expensive option but could be better to sell in the end, he didnt pay too much for it though as the car was an ex demo so fully loaded but with 4000 miles on the clock. sat nav in some cars doesnt do much but sat nav in the new type-r makes a hell of a lots of difference as its star wars in there anyway so it really makes it the full fat.
shame the ride is so hard though as i love the looks of those 19`s and hate the look of the 18`s.

Are these the only difference between the R and the GT?I had a quick look at the honda site but cant get a straight comparison?
with the GT you get Aircon, cruise control, fogs, auto lights and auto wipers. They're the main things, there might be one or two other minor things, can't remember.
Worth the extra £1k I reckon.
With regards to the post about not wanting cruise control on the car, I disagree. Try a 200 mile journey with it sitting at 80mph nice and relaxed with your feet off the pedals, then try the same 200 mile journey without it !! Miserable. Its all very well racing about on B roads etc, but on a long boring motorway journey, cruise control is a must in my opinion. Depends what sort of driving you do, but I'd have it even if you only do a handful of long journeys. Saves a stload on petrol as well compared to constantly accelerating, decelerating, overtaking etc.

unless they have changed it since the 57 reg`s cruise is an option and not on all gt models as my friends gt has sat nav, fogs, footwell lighting, 19`s the whole shibazz but no cruise control.Worth the extra £1k I reckon.

No you're wrong mate, Honda website as follows:
In addition to the Type R features, the Type R GT comes with:
Dual zone climate control
Cruise control
Dual curtain Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) airbags
Front foglights
Automatic headlights with dusk sensor
Automatic rain sensing windscreen wipers
Power folding door mirrors
CRUISE CONTROL definitely standard on 2008 GT's, as are all of the above.
