Got a few bikes and a tatty mk1 mx5 at the moment and I thought it would be nice to spend £6k on a 2 seater drop top and found that s2ks were in my budget.

so what to look for on a 70k mile w plate car apart from the obvious like service history etc etc.

do the hoods devolop leaks etc etc

www.s2ki.co.uk - a lot of very good information there.

£6k will get you only a very old and probably quite tired one, so expect to have some repair bills during your ownership. I mention this because it may be a £6k car but will have £26k sports-car running costs (clutch = several hundred + fitting, wishbones = £400 each, etc. etc.).

Don't want to put you off - it's fantastic. But be aware it'll cost a fair bit more to run than an MX-5.

I thought it cost a bit more as my mk 1 h plate mx5 costs buttons but its getting a bit tatty now and I'd like somthing a bit more refined .

I was looking at a mk 3 mx5 or a cheap elise but the elise would be a pita and the mk2 mx5 is suposed to be a bit lardy and not as mutch fun as the mk 1.

To put it in context I once owned a fiat x19 ( shudder ) so I can do most mechanical stuff myself apart from major engine stuff like cam belts ( I dont have the tools ).

I need some insurance quotes as well as I believe its a group 20 car!!

I guess that the engine is going to do 100k + however I would worry about some other bits.. escpecially the clutch (if its not had one) as I am led to believe that its an engine out jobbie..

£600-£800 acording to main dealer but for £7k I'll be lucky to get anything with less than 60k on the clock.

main service is £360 at a honda dealer and its every 9.5k miles, as the car is going to be a toy I'll do that in about 18 months smile

I dont mind the expence which I can afford if I know what it is before I buy

Nah. I've had 3 services on mine (levels 1, 2 and 3), and none has been higher than £250 except where I've had brakes done at the same time. 9k interval between each one, and they cycle through them...so average £200 per 9k miles + tyres, brakes etc.

It has been done, but only with one manufacturer IIRC - search on s2ki for the details.

Although to be honest you'll be better off upgrading the speakers first, and fitting some headrest speakers too!

I've got a Pioneer in mine, which works with the dash controls.Know nothing about it as it was fitted by the previous owner, along with the DVD sat nav to fill the hole in the dash where the JDM screen was.

By the way, have you had the cambelt checked yet?............

It'a double linked chain, and damn it looks well engineered when you see the camshaft cogs and the drive chain in situ with the rocker cover off !!
