What's up with the market at the moment? I'm trying to sell my S and It's down for a great price yet not a sniff. With the current glut of cars for sale and the credit crunch, is this affecting resale values?confused

Yup.

However, it's affecting all cars. Sporty Hondas probably fairing a little better as they offer economy and performance. That's what I like about my S2000, easy 30mpg+ for those long trips and commutes etc. and fast fun B road blasts when I'm so minded biggrin

I keep seeing nice Audi V8s (a8, s8, S6 etc.) at cheapo prices but so far resisiting! biggrin

Why are you selling? What price and what year?

Only problem would be selling mine, i know whats its worth but i know i will get no were near it. Its dropped about 3k in 15 or so months so i suppose it could be worse !

That's a good price!

We've tentatively got ours on the market also (but just sold the wife's 306, so no rush thankfully) - '03 GT with 33k - and I'd baulk at selling it near that low!

So you've got me worried...

I'd say the S2000 is suffering at the moment as:-
- for many it's a second car, so a luxury purchase not a necessity.
- it's a soft-top, and with the recent summer I can see the desire for soft-tops falling.
- the 'convertible hard-tops' are persuading a lot of 'casual buyers' (vs driver-focused buyers) away from soft-tops.

Yep, I had it on for 1K more but no interest at all so decided to drop it mainly because I had seen something else I wanted and was prepared to take the hit but still no interest frown How low do I have to go? furious

Been looking at an '05 GT (hard-top) model and they are going to hit £13k [dealer price] soon - so you can see what you're up against.

What sort of spec '05 plate were you looking at? Mileage? And where was this dealer? My local wanted loads more for an 05.

Prices DO seem to be all over the place at the moment, for a lot of cars - almost like some vendors are trying to fight the buyers market (if enough do, then it'll succeed, but they need to be patient, which is hard to do when you have to turn a profit and turn the cash over...).

The reason they might not be selling is their the highest tax band I think, the insurance is just silly for the type of car it is (same price as a 996c2 for me), its the wrong time of year to sell, a dated design, a lot of parallel imports about posing as UK cars, anything before 06 your looking at seized bolts and bushes. With all this I was hoping to get one at a decent price and fit some aftermarket bits like sc and dampers but no chance, the sellers seem to be waiting for the recession it would seem.

As for the market slowing, the S2000's high tax band and group 20 insurance (why, I wonder, I can insure a TVR Tamora for less than the S2000) is enough to put a lot of potential buyers off. Last August my 04 plate S2000 was worth around 18k (Parkers), this August approx 13.5k (@40k miles).

Although the figures look worrying, the market must be worst with other big engine high emmission vehicles. Although the prices at the forecourts seem to be hidden in main dealers as if there is no credit crunch.

Looks like dealers and private sellers are going to be hit hard in the new year along with the credit crunch.

The S2000 still holds a few good points including reasonable running costs, mpg, handling and performance.

It's a buyer's market at mo....
