Honda S 2000's any good?

In summary:-
- What's wrong? Nothing much except for possible suspension adj. bolt seizure - do a search on s2ki. It's not as widespread as some people make out, but there's enough known occurrences, and the possible bill is high enough, for you to be aware before buying. That aside they're very well built and very reliable if serviced and if you check the oil regularly.
- How do they drive? Very variably depending on how the geometry is set up and what tyres are fitted. No driver aids beyond ABS, and it's a powerful rear-driver, so it needs respect in the wet. But properly set-up it's nowhere near as nasty as it's reputation, and is a LOT of fun! Becs drives ours in the wet without worrying, despite the occasional 'moment'.
- Engine is a lot torquier than all the nay-sayers point out. Unless you're coming from a V8 or a turbo'd car, you'll not notice any problem - it pulls well in the mid-range and like a banshee at the top-end!

I only have mine a few months and love it. I just got home from a 4200km holiday to the Basque country where I spent 6 weeks getting to know the car.
I was a bit worried about the reputation for tricky wet weather handling but find that it is fine if you are sensible with your inputs. Just like any other car then.
There is a sense of occasion that is not present in most other Japanese cars and the tighness of the cockpit (yes, cockpit!) in combination with the display make the car feel like a fighter jet.

S2k's are great cars.
But put that engine in a CRX and then you'll have one of the most awesome cars ever on the road.
I know, I've got one.
Everytime makes you giggle like a small schoolgirl.
You STILL not gone back to school? But put that engine in a CRX and then you'll have one of the most awesome cars ever on the road.

Oh...and you've not got an S2000 engine in your car, and it's still fwd. Just a thought...
Had mine for a year now, was the girlfriends for two before that.
Always been a second car so used infrequently (its an 02 and only has 21k)
Problems? well the battery does tend to go flat if left and then that sets the alarm off (usually at about 2 in the morning) which you then can't turn off, so the answer is use it! Thats about it really
I hate driving it on the motorway/ dual carriage ways for any distance though its too noisey and a bit uncomfortable.. I prefer to take the longer country road route which gives you a chance to use the gearbox... which is absolutely fab
Treat it with respect and it will look after you well (like try not to suddenly hit vtec in the middle of a corner!).

Oh and the hood has to be down

- Servicing - reasonably cheap (lots cheaper than my BMW)
- Insurance - expensive its a group 20 with a bit of a reputation as being a bad boy i'm 31 full ncb and no points and its £740 in comparison the 3.5 litre BMW is £400
- Tyres - don't last that long if driven "spiritedly" mine is now on the third set of rears and they are getting low.
- Fuel - not sure what it does mpg wise but if you use vtec alot its not that much
- Bodywork - seems very susceptible to parking dents, most panels on mine have a ding, so when I get some spare cash its off to the body shop.
- Wheels - these seem very easy to kerb/ scuff and they do corrode badly

That's not a problem in the dry, but I can vouch for that being a bad thing in the wet...managed a fantastic tank-slapper down a slip-road following that...although after the first correction the front-outside wheel went over the white outer-strip of the road, which might not have helped...havoc said:

I'm no expert, but is it not an F20C?
K20A is from the Civic Type R.I think our new pet has been sold a pup by someone!!!
Silly boy...
K20 - If you're going to argue with someone, be 100% sure of your facts first, otherwise you'll only look stupid. Then again, you've been looking stupid since you arrived here, so you're probably used to it by now!
