Will non-main dealer servicing affect warranty?
Discussion
My wife has a 2006 CR-V which is now due it's 25k service - the local stealer quoted me £375 which is basically just for an oil change, new filters/plugs and a 'check of the mechanical components and bodywork'. I though BMW charged me the earth but that seems ludicrous to me!!
The car is still under warranty for another 12 months, and I wouldn't want to jeopardise that (although CR-Vs are usually very reliable so there is a good chance I'll never need it).
I know it could affect resale, but we will have the car for at least 5 years and by that age I am not sure it would pay for itself versus a local Indy, who will charge me half as much for this and all subsequent services.
Any feedback?
Cheers
Chris

why don't you get quotes from other Honda dealers nearish to you? It's unbelievable how much service costs can vary. The dealer you usually take it to might price match if the other quotes are significantly cheaper.
Another good way to save money is to supply your own oil etc. The mark up on these things at dealers is ridiculous.
I'd be inclined to stick with Honda for the servicing.

Any vat registered garage can carry out servicing work and not effect warranty. My mates buisness has serviced my Accord since it was a year old. I have had a couple of warranty issues and was fine.TBH, I would rather my friend did my car than the local stealers. It has taken 3 months to change some alloys with the laquer lifting and they managed to damage the new rim when fitting it and also not be able to sort the sticking clutch pedal.I believe my local dealers charge £70/hr and my mate is £35/hr I know they wanted nearly £700 to supply and fit a towbar!!!!
On my first service the dealer quoted me 240 quid for a service , then it turned out i needed new 2 new tires 2 brake discs and pads at a whappin £900 .
Next door to it it was another garage and he done it for £460 with honda parts and the proper tyres.
Altough when i sold the car everyone asked me why i didnt use the main dealer and it did take 1k of the asking price
in the end i had to let it go for 9.5k as it was catchin dust

Although we have no plans to change the car anytime in the next few years, from what you have said I think we'll stick with the main dealer options.Next door to it it was another garage and he done it for £460 with honda parts and the proper tyres.

Thanks all - now for some haggling!
