Is an imported S2000 cheaper to tax than a UK one?

I'm interested in S2000's but not up for giving the government a shed full of tax for the privilege. Can I avoid this by buying an imported one? Will the future changes in road tax affect an import?

As all cars (imports) it depends on the SVA test it underwent.

Some will be registered as PLG, others on CO emissions, if the latter then you will be stung on the new tax system if it's introduced.

If you buy a car UK registered pre 01/03/2001 then the standard > 1.6 charge applies only on both.
