Has anyone ever fitted LPG to a 2.2 Acord Type-R?
Any potential problems anyone can see? Are VTECHs not suited to LPG, its just you dont see any running it?
Ta.
hi did'nt you ask this on atr.org?? lolAny potential problems anyone can see? Are VTECHs not suited to LPG, its just you dont see any running it?

i'm sure it can be done but dont know why you would want too lol
we have lots of problems with some lpg convertions i guess if you do your homework all be well
dont if it will affect the performance though

Thanks, no I have not posted any other forums.
Basically I am looking into buying a second car.. I Have a mini with a k20 in it and am very impressed how many MPG i get out of this even on full tilt. I have had a few diesels and like the MPG they give but hate the low revving lazy engines. What sort of MGP should i expect from one as standard? I know an Acord is a lot heavier but the h22 has more torque?
I have been looking at mk4 golfs but have herd mixed reviews on reliability, whereas all Hondas have very good reputation.

My prelude will do 30mpg on a run and around 25 in normal driving. If I VTEC alot then it might drop down to 20ish.Basically I am looking into buying a second car.. The engine is basically the same as the ATR, so you will probably get similar figures, possibly slighty worse as you have more weight, and a slighty higher tune on the engine.
ATR is a much better car than a golf IMO.

It's never been particularly effective on high performance VTEC engines. Personally I wouldn't bother.
On what basis do you say that? A mate of mine ran his DC2 ITR on lpg for some time with no issues at all, and even when he wrapped it round a tree and ended up on his side the LPG system didn't fail him.I'm considering getting it fitted to my ITR as it happens, as he's a qualified fitter and I can get the parts cheaper than it would cost for a drive in - drive out service.
I think people pay too much attention to the scaremongering tbh, I had it on a Gen3 Prelude for two years with no real issues either, altho that wasn't a Vtec model.
For what its worth same mate has LPG on his 147GTA currently, and if you didn't know you wouldn't guess.
I say it on the basis of quite a few people's experiences with highly strung VTEC engines and LPG, in that there was never really a financial case for it. It is very very difficult to recoup the outlay of conversion. Not to mention the additional weight.
It might not be the case every time, but when I've spoken to people who've done Hondas and Toyotas the MPG figures have dived considerably, too.
Personally I wouldn't invest £1000-£2000 on a car worth less than 5 or 6 times that in the hope that the government won't raise the duty level of LPG. Especially if I wasn't going to recoup the cost of the conversion and would make the car heavier and less practical.

Fair comments I guess, altho the weight thing is hardly an issue, the tank is about the only heavy item and generally they are smaller than the petrol tank fitted so actual weight with a full tank of lpg won't really differ from a full tank of petrol. As for mpg, my mate never seemed bothered as he got his gas cheap, and even now its still well under half the price of UL (and bearing in mind the ITR prefers SUL its a decent saving!) I'm biased obviously from having had LPG cars before, and being able to source the parts cheaper than a retail garage would charge, but as a system there is no reason why it shouldn't work fine on a highly strung car compared to any other. Practicality losses would only be boot space should you have a standard tank fitted (can always lose the spare wheel and go for a smaller torus tank remember) or finding a supply of the gas itself, but even thats getting better these days. As for the duty on it, thats been threatened for some time and so far its not happened... plus there are ways round it just as with diesel supplies.
