Honda Civic LSI 1.5 91-95

Hello

right im looking for a new car and ive decided i want one of these, im not really a fan on modified cars but after seeing a few of these civics modified,i really like them

im not the biggest car enthusiast so i dont know much and ive had a look at a few sites like "wisebuyers" but they dont seem to list much specs on these cars

so a few questions:

how do they run?
are they good on fuel?
does it really matter if the car has more then 100k on mileage?
do they all have power steering?
are they all v-tec engines?
are they a safe car to drive?

and im not to sure if im allowed to ask this but is there any good sites for civics besides Pistonheads? i just want to see more variety of these modified civics but it seems theres only Pistonheads around UK whats got a decent layout of cars

1) Nicely. Will be fine if they've been looked after.
2) Not bad, should be able to get 35 i'd imagine.
3) Not in the least bit. Will go on for yonks.
4) I *believe* so.
5) The 1.5's will be yeah, well, sort-of vtec. It's the economy vtec rather then the "ow my face" vtec.
6) Sure, if you don't crash them.

ive had a quick look at them sites but there isn't much LSI's on them,do you know any sites what are like this when it comes to searching for the cars?

im looking into getting a civic like these:







or maybe a coupe version if i can find a nice enough one, im wanting a few sites what will have cars like this on

Unless you are planning on modding it to buggery, I'd recommend the VEi over the Lsi. Lsi does NOT have vtec. VEi has economy mode vtec, has the same 90hp as the lsi but bonus extra economy if you're interested. The lsi offical mpg is 39, the vei is 48.

They run great as long as you get an unabused example - one that is modified is more than likely to be thrashed more than a standard one.
I used to get roughly 30mpg out of mine with some hard b road driving.
The milage doesn't really matter as long as you get one that has been looked after.

No - not vtec at all. As said only the ESI or VTI have VTEC (not vtech/v-tec/vtek or any other variation)
Safe? As safe as any other car!

As for good websites, try: jdmy0, civiclife.net, and civicsportclub.org

I would stay away from the one's you have posted. The reason i say this is the resale values on these are low and the market is limited. If i were you i'd get one that is well modified with some nice wheels, suspension and clean bodywork.

Watch out for rust on the rear arches - its a very common problem on EG's. Also make sure the gearbox doesn't crunch when chnaging gear. Again a very common problem.

its the insurance what is stopping me from getting a VTi, i can get insured on a LSi for 1400 full comprehensive but a VTi knocks it up to 2600 which i cant afford at the moment

but what i will do is when i find something im interested in, ill put it on this thread and see what you guys think of it first, seen as your all obviously honda nuts

Those figures are for an EK LSi the EG LSi's only have 90 BHP but you could swap an EK LSi head onto it.

Those ESi figures are also wrong they are 125bhp not 158 and they have SOHC VTECS where as the VTi's have DOHC VTECS

My lsi is a fantastic car and with the ek mpi engine and some fettling to mine it runs really well (116bhp and 102 f/lbs of torque iirc), almost upset that it's getting upgraded to a b16 through the summer.

My advice is don't buy one with any modifications inside or out, look locally for older folk selling up, as the majority on the internet will have been harshed for the past few years, and catch the rust on it asap.

sweet! I've been thinkign about the EK lsi engine and swapping it into my EG4 just yesterday, to give a bit more power but theoretically retain the same huge mpg abilities. Is it an easy swap? I know it will bolt straight in, but what about ECUs? My other issue is do the insurance companies load on your premium for having 25hp over stock?
