Since buying my s2000 second hand from a dealership in northallerton i loved it and thought it was the best car ever! but as of last week it soon changed.

Whilst the weather was nice i thought i'd have the roof down after i had finished work, whilst doing this the roof stopped half way and then fell down, which my first reaction was the motor had broke, so i tried to put the roof up electronically which happend but i noticed i had a tear @ the top left side behind the clip where the clip had some how torn it. I took it to my local Honda dealership to get it repaired under warrenty as it was under 3 yrs old. which the response from the dealership " This has happend a few times and honda are aware of the problem but wont pay out under warrenty and its going to cost me £3k!! as you can imagine i wasnt too happy about, i then contested it to the car customer relations h/o for honda which they then told me my car was a Import (which i knew nothing about) so i didnt even have a warrenty on the car anyway. So as you can see i loved that car to peices and having paid £18k for the car 8 months ago it is now valued @ £14.5k which is why it was the best car i ever owned to the worst.

Sorry if this seems a ramble, but i thought i'd share this with you.

Speak to car hood warehouse .. a new roof will be about £800.

Sorry to hear of your issues.

I'll be swapping a MY00 roof for a late spec one one weekend soon.

Don't go to the dealer to get it mended. Go to a specialist, it'll cost a bucket and a half less.

Did you buy the car from the dealer you went to?

I'd double-check your car's history and the exact position - I'm sure Honda changed to a 3-year warranty on parallel (i.e. Euro-) imports a little while back, so it could be someone is trying to wriggle out of it!

If you've a JDM car, though:-
- it should have showed up on both the V5 and IIRC a HPI report;
- it'll probably be pretty obvious;
- it won't have any real warranty.

As said above, how long ago did you buy the car, and where from? If a trader, then there'll be at the very least an implied warranty, but that may not cover the hood unless damaged as a consequence of a mechanical/electrical failure. If a main-dealer then it should have 12-months Hondacare, which IS worth checking out...

i bought the car 8/07 from a company called European auto house, they have now closed down, the car doesnt show as a import on the V5 doc, i also work for a finance company and when i did a vehicle check the car shows up but not as a import but then again it just comes up as a honda not a s2000.

Where does the car show it was registered? Try ringing Honda UK and ask for their advice - 01753 590760 they have been helpful in the past, good number to keep! They should atleast be able to find out the truth behind it all.

Hope all gets sorted.

i Rang them when the local dealership told me they wouldnt pay out because i wanted to protest against the decision, it was Honda themselves who told me the car was an import and advised me the car looks like it came from southern ireland.

So if you take it to a dealer in the south of Ireland they will sort it under warranty then? As it's under 3 years old there has to be some Honda warranty somewhere....

It's a European car then. Try and find out for certain when the rules changed on warranties on parallel imports - I seem to recall they have, and Honda now give 3 years on parallels as well.

Otherwise yes, take it to the RoI - the cost of the work will balance out the cost of a short holiday in Ireland...

Fair enough, your choice.

But I think you made a mistake, if you'll excuse me saying so. There were options there worth investigating, and the residuals on the S2000 far exceed those on the ST, so regardless of any other considerations you've cost yourself money in the long-run, even accounting for a new hood.

I agree, plus you're now ending up with an inferior car.
