Right, Im getting very confused now.

My ukdm has a horrid custom exhaust which very loud due to only having one box in the system and being nearly 3" ! .
It also has its own built in cat, which causes grief, as I will need to replace the cat as well.

All the joints are slip joints so I cant do anything but junk it and move on.

Basically, I want to get it as quiet as possible, primarily because its my daily driver, but I also want to do some track days in it.

This is where I get confused.

Where do I stand as far as a cat goes for mot ?

whats the cheapest option ?

Ive been offered various used bits of pipework, but TBH, if Ive been sent 8 pictures, I havnt seen two pipes the same, and these are all supposed to be standard !

I was toying with a multi length de cat, and maybe a Mongoose cat back.

I really dont want to spend loads as the car needs a set of RE010's way more than an exhaust, but Im fed up with attracting the wrong sort of attention.

Have tried asking on itr-dc2, but they dont seem overly patient with noobs.

Your thoughts appreciated.

If your looking for cheap could you take it to the likes of powerflow and get them to just put an extra silencer in?

Get your local shop to make an insert that will reduce the 3" down to 1" and it will quiet it a lot unless you are booting it!

Thats what Ive been trying to do. Ive bought a uk rear box, I just need a cat/decat and B pipe.

But as I said in the op, I havnt yet seen 2 that look the same, and as such am reluctant to buy.

Im aware of the uk/jdm differences as well.

Most used cats look ropier than a very ropy thing, hence my question on the legility of de cats.

Let me guess, you've been on itr-dc2 and they told you to "search as its been done to death" or something along those lines?

Anyway, I'm not really mechanically competent so I wouldnt really dish out advice, I just assumed it would be easy enough to get a standard system.

Another idea is if you can find a custom exhaust builder around your area, he could build you a quiet stainless steel system, might cost a few quid extra but from what I hear even the standard exhausts arent cheap.

Answering my own post here, but have just spoken to Honda.

A genuine brand new B pipe is only about £100, plus say £12 for gaskets and bolts.

A decat pipe will cost me £50.

Keep my eyes open for a good used uk cat on ebay for mot purposes, ebay the system thats on it now and hopefully not be too far out of pocket at the end of the day.

Sorted.

seen a new cat advertised for £67 i can rememder if it was on motorsportworld or topgear.
you will need a cat to pass mot.
i can recommend the DC sport full system as being very quiet but screaming in vtec. seen these for £275 in either apb or funkypower can remember which.
