I am in the process of buying a used (05) GT from a Honda Dealership.

The car is not yet with the dealer and won't be until later this week and I rang him today to ensure that the stand and cover are also transported as I suspect that the roof will be on the car when it is moved.

The salesman spun the line that as this is a used car it could be that the stand and cover are not included and suggested that if they are not then it's another £750 to provide them new.

I suggested that it was probably a £750 option for the GT pack of Roof, Stand and cover.

Can anyone confirm what the position is please?

I suspect that this is a sales trick to grab more dosh from the punter as I suspect that even if the stand and cover arive with the car, the salesman can swear blind that it was not provided and sell me the used parts again as new.

Hmmmmmmmmmm. Interesting question. I personally would have thought they'd throw in the cover and stand as a good will gesture, if you're paying the asking price.

visit www.s2ki.com, the uk section and ask.

There is a date change that the GT did not come with the stand and cover as standard, not sure what it was though.

If the dealer says they don't have the stand and cover then I guess they are under no obligation to supply it with one.

However I can sell you them for a lot less than £750, let me know if you are interested.

Or just make it a condition of sale that they supply the stand/cover for no extra cost.

£750 is him trying to fleece you, or to set you up so you think £200 is a good deal.

And as a buyer I'd expect both to be included in the sale - you're buying a 'GT' model, NOT an S2000 with hard-top - therefore IMHO the dealer is obliged to provide you with a GT model, including accessories!

GT = hardtop version = car comes with stand and cover - wouldn't let them try and pull your trousers down!

Thanks for the comments guys.

I've been doing some research on this and the Dealer is right for the 2008 spec car. It is a £750.00 accessory. I found that out from the Honda Car Experience site, however, I cannot find out what the retrospective situation was on the Revision 3. I suspect that it is no different so as I am buying a used GT then it comes as it comes. If there is no Stand and Cover for the roof then that is how the dealer will sell it.

I have already let the salesman know that if they don't come with the car then I will not be buying them as a £750.00 option!

I will probably make my own.

Thanks again.

PS Are any of you on track tomorrow evening at Brands Hatch? I will be there to give you some support. May see some of you there.

I really would be pushing for them to be included - the cover is a cheap plastic thing and the stand is just an ally frame - cost to the dealer is probably <£100.

...so that £750 thing is a joke. £750 for the hard-top and kit I can understand, but a cheap stand and cover???

I have now see the car and it has a Toneau and just the hardtop cover. (No stand).

I have now agreed a price for the car and will collect it next Thursday. (17th April)

This is an 05 reg car with 21K on the clock. I have managed to negotiate in the price, its first MOT, new mats and most importantly its next two annual services at the dealership. The Hardtop Stand I will make myself once I have taken the hardtop off the car next weekend.

Can't wait.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Hi MiloD,

Slight change of plan. Work has got in the way and I won't pick up the car until Saturday 19th now.

I see that you are in Kent too. Are we the only two in the Garden of England?

You need to do the following (delete all the spaces):-

Edit: You'll need to host the image online somewhere, then copy the hyperlink which IS the picture, NOT the hyperlink for the general page. Good hosting sites like photobox / photobucket make it easy for you to pick the right link...

Just bought a s2000 GT as well and been looking into storage for the hardtop. Found a company on ebay selling a made to measure bag you can hang on the wall of the garage for £100 with postage.

The hood fits in perfectly but not put the hooks in yet.

Worth a look, search for hardtop storage on ebay and it should come up. They make for several models inc s2000.
