Hi guys, I am very interested in importing a JDM Civic Type R but the costs are putting me off a bit. Can anyone give me an indication as to how much a model report would cost, and how much the total cost of the test would be for a standard car?

Is there any way to get a model report "on the cheap" aka downloaded off the internet, or is the only way to rent it from the owner?

Cheers, Rob

Sorry I should say I'm based in N. Ireland and I'm trying to cut costs as much as possible, hence doing as much of the prep myself and getting a model report as cheap as possible. It's the EP3 (2002) CTR I am talking about..

I got this for free on the Model Reports Direct Ltd website:

Surely the actual model report can't have much more info than that?

You're right, that is the entire model report. The reports are routinely available as free pdf downloads. The issue is that you can't simply turn up for your esva with a copy you've printed off.

The owner of the model report has to formally notify VOSA that you have their permission to use the report against a particular car; which, of course, they'll only do in return for a few hundred quid.

The free downloads are handy though - you can see what's examined and you can check your car against it before the test to give yourself the best chance of passing.

What stops you editing that to say you're the owner?

The real owners register their reports with VOSA:
