Hi, I have a K20(civic Type-R) engine and i am looking at getting more power out of it.
I am running a BMC filter, Hydra ECU, 4-2-1 exhaust, and stock internals.
I have been looking at the rotex charger for a while now, but have heard mixed reviews about it?
I am looking for around 300bhp, to start with just to get used to it and then going up in power until i scare myself daft! How much power can i expect without it all going pop?
Thanks.

BTW it is not in a Civic, sorry.

I would have thought the supercharged route would be far easier considering the engine is in the back, as far as i know the Jackson Supercharger that CPL supply doesn't need any form of intercooling where as a turbo will definately need an intercooler or at a push charge cooler but either way it complicates things and adds weight.
I'm not sure what power can be had from a supercharged K20, most people fit them to std engines but if you were prepared to open the engine and drop the compression then this would give you scope for more power.

Cheers

Probably worth asking on the Elise forums too (if you haven't already), K20A's are a pretty popular transplant for them. Commonly ~230bhp NA and ~300bhp SC iirc.

Mini looks a great laugh! (in a scary way) hehe

Ooh, fun! biggrin

Supercharging would be the most sensible route - there's a few established kits (Jackson Racing being the best-known) to pick from.

As for how much? Depends how deep your pockets are. I'm not an expert (will be someone on the CTR forum who probably knows), but I'd suggest that much above 300bhp and the stock internals will probably need upgrading...the K20A wasn't designed with big power/torque in mind...

...oh, and if the 'box is anything like older Honda 'boxes, that/clutch will be the weak point once you hit big numbers...

And probably the box itself, too. Honda's boxes on high revving engines have been fairly weak in the recent past.

lol
Yeah i already cooked a standard Honda clutch drag racing it last year. I now have an Fidanza? 4 paddle jobby, has anyone had any problems with one of these not full engaging. I used to, have sorted it now though.
As for gear box, im on the second lot of internals in 18 months the sticking clutch was the end of most of the syncros.
What is the easiest way of lowing the compression? Will the head off the type-S fit on my block? Will this lower the compression enough?
Thanks.

General tech stuff probably better in Engines & Powertrain. We've a fair idea about Hondas here, but we're not tuners...

Stock internals are good for 400bhp+ wit a rotrex SC, There's a little more to the kit than the bolt on JRSC but it delivers much more power. The gearbox should be fine in your pretty light car, I don't rate the fidanza clutches for trackdays, I spun one in a hour and a half of hard track use.
