How often should the standard element be replaced on an MY04 S2k?

Being a "cone type" is it a "for life" item? In which case how do you go about cleaning it? Mine was only serviced 2000 miles ago and I had a look at it today and it was filthy - which is a bit irritating!

Any ideas?

Standard filter isn't re-useable.I change ours on spec, ie when it looks ripe for changing do so.

Having said that, I have just replaced ours for the last time and fitted a K&N.

IIRC it's a 2- or 3-year service item. Which probably means yours is overdue!!! wink

Seriously - if it looks knackered, change it - they're not expensive.

Should have been at one of those...exactly how dirty is it then, and do you think the dealership tried to save a bit of money...

...which wouldn't surprise me much...my opinion of W.Mids Honda dealerships isn't far off that of Estate Agents and Recruitment Consultants!!!

Its dirty enough that you can actually see the dirt in between the folds of the paper and give it a good scrape off with your finger nails.

I wouldnt be surprised, my local dealer doesnt fill me with confidence.

Martin, drop me a mail offline as to your experiences? (I'm guessing we use / used the same group). Any alternatives?

Done mine a little while back. About £30 from Honda.

Takes, and I'm not joking, less than 60 secs to replace!! Allow 2 mins if you've never done it before lol biggrin

I wonder how much Honda would charge for fitting? biggrinbiggrin

I had a quick look, I like the way it has the little pin to locate it in the airbox. I couldnt work out how to get it off theinlet pipe - does it pull straight out or am I missing something?

Yup, it's that simple.

remove airbox
lift air filter so pin is not in hole.
pull and twist (you have to pull it out about 5mm then it'll twist properly. You can see at the top where it meets the airbox there's a little "bit" that doesn't allow it to be twisted at first).

It really is the easiest job to do on the car.

Even easier if your airbox lid has been in the garage for the last 18 months to get the full appreciation on full song!

I tried the "remove airbox" mod before I put my zorst on (TBH, its loud enough now, without the induction!) - I found it had heatsock something rotten and was kangarooing all over the place!

Update - I can clarify the Air Filer is a service item every 27k, so it was actually due at the next one.

Got a bit of a discount on it too, so only 25 quid.

Now its fitted, I'm going to try to sell the old one on eBay.

(No really, I genuinely am!)

Its for amusement rather than cash -

Make your Saxo Corsa 106 206 Nova Civic Polo Golf Focus Type R 200SX BMW perform better with this GENUINE Honda S2000 CONE k&n spoon mugen HKS Apexi Blitz Greddy STYLE (used) air filter

May also be used as an interesting conversation point / table decoration, or the basis for a motoring inspired decorative light (will require modifications)

ETA- just been out for a spin and the bum dyno seems to think the old girl has a bit more "go". My poor baby couldnt breathe frown
