hi guys just a quick question, normally i am on the noble forums as that what i drive however...

mate has a vtech 2.2 prelude which is in for an engine rebuild, it seems the crankshaft is out of spec (havent got the full details as the the engineering firms report, only that it is beyond repair)

what are the options for a new crank? any recommendations?

cheers
sean

1. Buy a new one from honda along with new main and big end bearings and may as well do rings while your in there - prepare to bend over
2. get a short motor from a breakers - cheaper option

I suppose its just a question of cost, add up what the parts, labour and installation will cost against just purchasing a replacement engine and having it fitted.

Seems insane to me rebuilding a H22.
You can buy a second hand engine for £300

not in germany mate, the engine was never released here. also one doesnt know what you are getting with a second hand engine and if you take into account the risk plus getting it to germany from the uk it starts to add up.

at least with a rebuild one knows its a decent engine

Ahhh, i didnt realise you were not in the UK.

Did you know that an acord type R H22 is a pretty easy swap (more power as well)
Just trying to give you more options.

I agree that once the engine is propperly rebuilt it should last you for ages biggrin
Do you have any pics of your car? You must be a real enthusiast to repair it smile

The best place to get parts will be the USA, with the exchage rate its often cheaper for me to buy there than in the UK. They also have more tuning bits avalable if you want more power. ive bought allot of honda bits (both OEM and aftermarket) and its saved me alot of money (but delivery is usually 2 weeks)

Good luck with the rebuild.
