Painting callipers

Quite like to do this as I've recently had pretty brake discs fitted and they're begging to be shown off better (got a gold tint to them)

Is it easy?

Is it best to take them off and paint them?

Is it easy to take them off?

If I take them off to paint them, is it likely something spring-loaded will fly off and go down a drain?

I cannot speak from expirence on a CTR but i did do quite a few mini brakes in my time, Two things, if your painting in situ properly clean everything first, and lightly sand any rough paint smooth. Be sure to properly clean your brakes afterwards, you don't want any corrosive detritus left on your disks, If your taking them off then you can go to town....

Bascially a haynes manuel will show you how to get the brake assembly off, and then you can use a varity of things to clean any oil grease or paint off. I cannot specfically reccomend anything because you have to be very careful with a number of componants. You need to keep anything abrasive away from the brake calipers, they could score the linings and cause brake failour.....

There are also a number of paints you can use, remember it needs to be very high temp paint, exhaust manifold paint is fairly common...

Its not really that hard as long as you have the right tools, and a haynes manuel will tell you everything. Personally i would save my self 4-5 hours of uncertainty and look up a garage that can do something like an electro static job, lasts a lot longer, will look better, and you will probably get some warrenty on it.

Bascially get the right paint, some appropriate cleaning materials, a haynes manuel, and some patience.

Its a man thing i am sure you will be fine.

I did mine on my old CTR,

Needed:
1 can of red hammerite
1 spray can of clear lacquer
1 paintbrush
1 wire brush
Sandpaper
Trolley Jack
Axel stands
News Paper
Masking Tape
Air gun / power bar to remove nuts
Torque Bar (for getting right setting when done)

i did 2 wheels at a time

Jacked front up placed on stands.
took off wheels (gave them a good clean too while paint was drying).
wire brush on calipers to get most dirt off.
Fine sand paper to finish.
Mask up the disk with paper and tape
I did 3 coats letting 30 - 40 mins to dry between coats, final coat left for an hour.
Clear lacker making sure non went on disks sprayed finely over caliper leave 15 mins do try
Put tyres on

Repeat for rear!

This is best being done in a garage or outside when dry take a whole day usually
