Making a DC2 sound better
Discussion
I've already asked some of these questions on the itr-dc2 owners forum, and they pointed me in the direction of sound clips, but I want to know if anyone has any real world experience of exhausts etc for the teg.
What is the best sounding exhaust for the teg?
Nothing annoyingly noisy, and definitely nothing that makes it sound like a max power chavwagon.
One that bangs and pops on the overrun would be excellent.
Also, what about induction, I am reading that the Mugen airbox is the best, but where do you buy there from?

An uprated Air Filter sounds great but you will losse a couple of bhp, if you must, get a Mugen if they still make them or Gruppe M which may add a couple of bhp, but big £'s the rest are useless. Exhaust chuck on a Spoon N1 makes all the right noises or the tasty Mugen Twin Loop only prolem with a UK DC2 IIRC the box will not fit on to the middle pipe with out a mod.

Thanks mate, was thinking about the mugen air filter but dont know where to get one from, but there is talk of a "replica" ATM on itr-dc2 which would probably do just as well.Mine is a JDM so shouldnt have too many problems...
The stock ITR sound is predominantly induction, so if you want more of the same that's where to start.
As has been said, all the cheaper boxes/filters actually lose you power, which is a bit frustrating.*
Exhaust-side, it'll change the character of the engine note whatever you get. Spoon N1 is LOUD!!!!!!! There's a Fujitsubo which gets very good reviews...not much over stock pre-VTEC, then at 5,800rpm it goes all touring-car!

- An equally in-effective performance mod but equally effective sound-mod, and a lot cheaper, would be to get a spare air-box lid and, ah, 'modify' it to let more sound out while not letting too much engine-bay hot-air in. Maybe some drilled holes, maybe a cut-off front with some wire-mesh, stuff like that. Or just take the lid off completely, lose 10bhp, gain 20dB (it's pretty loud...), and have to change the filter (cheap enough) twice as often to compensate for the extra crap it ingests...
Thanks Havoc, have you done any "sound" mods to yours?
I have read plenty about the fact the std airbox is very good. Incidentally, a lot seem to recommend the spoon intake but I cant find those anywhere, and am guessing that even if I could they would be pretty expensive.
Not sure what to do really, might just go with an exhaust, haven't really decided yet. Wont rush into anything because the last thing I want to do is make it unbearably boomy at low speeds, or lose power.

I'm going for a Buddy Club Spec3 full system in the next few weeks as my mate is the distributor for them here in Oz. Sounds something like this...

I have A DC Sports system and it sounds fantastic. its of very high build quality, does not sound too loud on normal driving but makes a spine tingling howl on vtec. seen it for good price from APB and funky power. cant remember which cheaper. Its the same as system as on the 3 black civics at start the fast and the furious but makes a deeper sound on the teg. as far as induction goes dont change standard air box. put a k&n element in. for a cheap option fit ru3130 element onto original filter base plate, about £30. then remove resonator and fit cold feed. I dont like the spoon element as it is thin foam and do not trust its filtering capabilities. The HKS foam found to not actually stop much dust!!!!. I have supersprint de cat which meant to give 4 bhp and when you see inside standard cat you can see why as the cells are very tight.
A friend of mine bought a DC2 with a blue flame stainless system, apparently that car was the test bed, it wasn't in your face, and you really couldn't tell it was non standard at low speed, but sounded much more urgent and race car ish when you gave it some stick, totaltty in keeping with the style of the car, and not drowing out the lovely induction noise, i think the car had a decat as well... it also looked reasonably stock too...
