"Auto-locking" on 2003 Accord

Does anyone know how I can disable this? Have recently acquired a 2003 (Facelift) Accord Sport, and it seems that, unless the keys are in the ignition (I think) the car automatically locks itself after a minute.

I find this really really annoying, especially when loading things into the boot, and am not sufficiently dozy to forget to lock the car anyway.

I'm sure it will catch me out one of these days. Any ideas?

Not sure you can - you have to remember the typical buyer was over 75, and as such, prone to forgetting to lock the car before wandering off.
It doesn't auto lock once you're inside - only if you don't open any of the doors within 30 seconds or so after opening the boot or deactivating the alarm.

A woman recently accosted me (same colour car!) asking if my key would unlock hers.
She put the key down in the boot, then closed it, not realising the alarm/immobiliser/deadlocks had all reset themselves since no door had been opened.
Apparently she done this 20 years ago, and the husband still mentions it.
So, another 20 years of ridicule after her latest escapade.

Cheeky get! It is the "sport" version and has a spoiler on the back. My last car was an A4 TDi- Far more geriatric!



But no, since you mention it, wasn't one of my brightest purchases. Needed car in a hurry and cropped up at auction. Ho hum.

Don't know how I'm cheeky - I've a 2.4 Accord Exec, same era.
That's how I know about the "feature" Honda felt was mandatory for the old fogey brigade's disappearing grey matter.

Pain in the arse - especially when you automatically lock the car with the missus inside as you walk away towards Tesco, and remember, so unlock it again, only for a vibrating butt to put you off chatting up the checkout assistant with a huge set of hooters smile as you hear an alarm going off on the other end of your phone call.
Rush out and turn it off, only to find it going off again when you come back with the milk and bread you only went in for!
I know full well the twonker who done that wasn't getting many loving glances that night!!

VAG cars (and probably most other manufacturers) do this as well. Although slightly different, the auto-lock works if the car has been unlocked but none of the doors have been opened.

As for shutting keys in the boot, this can happen with any car, you learn not to be stupid and keep the keys upon your person.

Aye, just unlock and open one door, you dont have to leave it open.

It's different on the new shape Accord, for example I can unlock the car, open the boot and the doors will still auto-lock after what only seems to me like 30 seconds, when you then close the boot the alarm then fully arms itself by flashing the indicators.

Weird, my 2002 Type R auto-locks even if I've opened the boot. I locked the keys in the boot once, missus wasn't impressed. It was 1am at a friends wedding and i got changed in the car park (as you do) and put the key on the floor of the boot while I got changed. Thankfully I was fully dressed when I shut the boot, saw the indicators flashed and had that sinking feeling. My pregnant wife had to drive me home at 2am with a missing rear quarterlight as I put it through with a hammer.
