I like the split, but as Honda doesn't make many exciting cars these days
But neither do Nissan, Toyota or Mazda .. But Mazda has it's own forum - say's it all; they still make good drivers cars.

Not long till the GTR, LFA and NSX replacement .. Now THEY will be exciting (fingers crossed).
Long gone are the GT4s, MR2s, Supras, Skylines, NSXs, 200sxs, RX7s etc .. I feel it's either a choice of a rally wannabe or wait.

[I'd hardly call the 350z 'exciting' though. It's good, yes. But I'd batch it with the S2000, RX8 & MX5 as a good sporty car (Toyota don't even have that in their lineup now).

All depends on your budget and priorities...most of us can't afford £50k cars!Not long till the GTR, LFA and NSX replacement .. Now THEY will be exciting (fingers crossed).

And as for your 'rose-tinted' list, I wouldn't rate the SX, Supra, or MR2 as even as involving/capable as the 4 modern cars you mention (assuming Mk2.5 MX5 not Mk3). GT4 I've not driven to comment upon...
whereas the modern ones:-
- S2000 is a very exciting car...esp in the wet!!! *
- Mk2 MX5 is great fun, just needs a better engine.
- RX8 is genuinely good - excellent chassis, rev-happy engine, nice driving position. Don't discount it so easily...
- 350Z I personally didn't get on with but there are a lot who rate it.
- I like mine a lot. It's no 'teg as far as being able to drive it 10/10ths, but I think you can level that at most high-power rwd cars. And the few cheap-ish tweaks I've made have given it more feedback and progression.
Don't get me wrong .. I love my S2000. And I don't have £50k+ to spend on a new car.
But when the UK choices of Japanese sporty cars are limited to a (UK) Civic Type-R or an Auris T-Sport (or something) .. I'll take a 10 year old MR2, SX or Supra anyday.
The RX8, S2000 and 350Z may be good cars (very good) but it's hardly wall poster stuff in my opinion. The powerful RWD sportscars seem to have dried up.

Hmmm...All 3 of them have more power than any 90's-era rwd Jap cars except the NSX (supercar) and Supra (as big and heavy as a 350Z, near-enough). Oh, and the 300ZX, which is hardly a poster-car itself...
...certainly the MR2 and 200SX wouldn't see which way they went, and an RX7 would have trouble...
So I really don't get your point...and I'll repeat my 'rose-tints' comment - to my mind only the NSX and GTR were 'poster cars', both of which were substantially more expensive than anything currently available (hence my £50k comment) and don't really warrant comparison with the current crop.
OK, Supra excepted. But most of the UK TT's come with an auto-box, don't they? Which surely excludes them from the 'involving' part of things.
As for MR2 / 200SX - some good friends had an SX and now have a Mk2 MR2 and an Evo VIII. They're good cars...and they are nice to drive...but to say they're better to drive than an S2000, RX8, or 350Z is IMHO overstating the case quite considerably. I'd rather have ANY of the modern 3 over those two (and over an auto Supra).

400 auto UK's, 200 UK 6spds. You can use the autobox as a clutchless manual. Seems the RX7 posted a faster lap than the RX8, S2k & 350Z too, and I've never heard them described as uninvolving.
Which is why I didn't mention the RX7 in that list, because it is a GENUINELY good car!!!Oh...and (not apropos of any cars we're discussing) IMHO lap-times are an irrelevancy for a road-car. Anything with stiff springs and wide tyres can post a quick lap-time. Doesn't make it any good on a B-road!!!
I drive an S2000 as it's a better car than my old MR2 (well, now I've tweaked it, it is).
Newer cars will always feel better than older ones, just down to wear and tear.
I just miss the old turboed cars of the 90's. They just felt special, where I feel a lot of the newer stuff doesn't (mainly down to added options and added weight, which all manufacturers are guilty of).
Anyhow, this is very off topic now. To answer the origional question, yeah, I like the Honda only section.

ok fine, but you reckon a stock s2000 would leave a stock MR2 Turbo (or near enough to stock, since so many have the obligatory exhaust and cone filter) for dead?
i wouldnt put money on it...
I didn't say that. I'd toasted many an S2000 in my MR2 (on the straights).i wouldnt put money on it...
The S2000 is just as quick on a track though due to the better brakes, suspension setup and better weight distribution. I was running aprox the same times round Nur in the MR2 and the stock S2000.
Now my S2000 wee's on the MR2 from a great height. Due to tweaking the suspension, brakes and adding a big dollop of power.

The original post just said MR2, not MR2 turbo (which BTW is a grey-import only and I'd be surprised if there were more than 100 in the country).
And everyone KEEPS talking about pace and lap-times and stuff...
- YES, modern cars will be quicker around a track;
- YES, they'll probably be more accelerative;
- YES, they'll have more grip;
- NO, they're not necessarily more involving / fun.
But in this case the three cars mentioned (RX8, S2000, 350Z) ARE more fun than at least a couple of the oldies mentioned.
That said, my 'teg IS more fun than my S2000.
