Should I buy an HR-V?

I am considering a used 2WD HR-V (c£3000). I need something practical, reliable and more interesting than a standard hatch. However I was wondering:

Am I too old for a blue, 3dr, ‘joy machine’ as 38 year old male? Is it a bit girly?
Is 2WD the better option? I think that for a mini 4x4 it should at least have the ability to be 4x4 but I know that 99.9% of the time it will be on road and struggling with the odd deep puddle.
What should I look out for?
Do the engines use cambelts and if so when do they need to be changed?
Anything else?
