It's crazy Friday!!

Just rang up the local dealer for a new type r badge for the front of the civic (old one has fallen off / nicked) but the bloke in the parts department will have to give me a call back because he is very busy at the moment.

The reason ??

Some young lad is at the front desk wanting him to price up the cost of putting a type-R engine in his current 1.3l Civic !! He must be mad - it would be cheaper to buy a type-r. And he would need to upgrade everything else too!!

I know I have only heard half the story but it sounds crazy.

Maybe he's thinking of building a sleeper.

The opposite of the 2006 3 series BMW I saw yesterday with an M badge on the back rolleyes

Maybe he's just thick as a brick wobblesmash

Not exactly the cheapest small engine you can buy and if he is looking to build a sleeper, I'm convinced it would be massively easier/cheaper to drag a CTR down than build a shopper up. Just think about it - engine, 'box, suspension, brakes, tyres, wheels - the list goes on.

The parts man reckons it would be about £15k worth of parts - dunno if that was a bit of an exaggeration !?!?

Must be a dime-bar...why not get a written-off EP3-R from a breakers and use the engine, box, loom etc...

Just what I was thinking. Putting a bigger engine into an older Civic isn't a bad(or new) idea, but doing it with all brand new parts from Honda is ridiculous!

It reminded me of those max-power cars where they have taken an £8k saxo and spent £30k making it look 'wicked'..... rolleyes

K20a in an EG6 chassis would rather nice.

http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1518023 no ricey mods, just a nice conversion.

But yeah must be mad getting an engine from dealer, get one from a crashed car thats already run in etc.

Even if he did it (as said its been done before!) it would upset the cars handling as the weight is different. I'd stick an integra engine in it if it were mine. A jap parts importer was selling K20s with looms for £2000. Honda are a rip off!!!!!!

wouldent it just be simpler to buy a cheep Type r and remove all the extra body kit etc wouldent that make it look standard . . then buy a 1.4 badge . .

But guessing this he wont be wanting his insures to find out about the TypeR engine

obviously a fool and his money and all that.

B Series engines are a dime a dozen these days, the new hotness is K20A transplants.

Im waiting on the right K24 to come my way and building that with a K20 head (JDM DC5R) and some internal work, and bunging that in my Prelude. The latest Honda Tuning mag has a DC2 with that combo and its pushing 300+ whp!

If you do that though you cant rev it as much as a stroked k20 safely. Much past 7.5k and then things go bang.

Have you tried jap performance parts for your K20 or do you just want a brand new Honda one. Would save you loads of cash for a bit of playing. Did that 300whp engine have a charger or something? Not clued up on that particular engine but sounds like a bit of a big number. Wasn't Max Power magazine was it!! lol

lol far from it my good man, I thought the numbers looked a bit suss, but it checks out. Its in Honda Tuning, a venerable magazine from the USA. The K20/K24 combo seems to be the way to go. Plenty of JDM aftermarket support for them as well as USDM support. Biggest sticking point is the price of the buggers at the moment. When my H22 carks it, i'll be building one of these combo's.

Drop us an email when you do the K24/20 i'd be really interested to see how you get on. Take it you'll be using Hasport mounts?

Tried getting that Honda Tuning but can't find anyone that sells it!!

Here's a good thread from a US website about a k24/k20 supercharged project.

Probably not using Hasport, they dont even do H22 OEM replacement mount kit after months of mine and others badgering them to do some. As this swap hasn't been really taken up by prelude owners its an unknown, so i will probably have to use mostly custom stuff like driveshafts and mounts.
