coming home from work toady, going though a rather large puddle, everything was fine, untill some prick in a lorry went flying past the other way. However the car was fine until, i noticed the engine check light came on, then i noticed that the speedo was not working, then to top things off, the esp light came on and now the power steering isnt working! STrange though that the engine is fine, apart from no v tec, but i think this is a safety design on the engine whilst the engine check light is on! im thinking ecu? where is it? so i can try and dry it out or something?? any suggestions will be great, cheers gents

What car do you have dude? I have a civic and the ECU is on the passenger side in the footwell under the carpet.

As i am lead to believe the ECU goes into limp mode to save any damage to the engine hence why you cannot go into vtec y0. smile

If i were you i would try drying off your fuses and box, Check your Lamda sensor, make sure your vtec solanoid is ok (Either on top of the inlet manifold or the bulkhead) and then start her up.

Honda's in my experience dont like water - I drove through a puddle and my innner arch came off and dragged under the front wheel ripping my cv boot in the process. Oh the joys.

Its an s2000, its an import on a 99 plate. Today has been quite good, i managed to sort all the probs out apart from the eps, power steering. Still not working! So far ive only had to cash out 25 quid, so its not all bad news. I have noticed that the idle fluctuates a little some times, so ill try what you said about the sensor. Ill keep you posted about the power steering! Fxxking weather, supposed to be the summer!!

Most of these symptoms would be associated with a speed sensor problem.

Not sure how they do it on the S2k.
Could be from the back of the gearbox or via the ABS sensors.

Look atthe back of the gearbox for a speed sensor, which may have been under water.

A drowned Speed sensor will upset the ABS, Speed sensitive PAS and engine ecu if the speed signal is not received .

A visual inspection may not reveal anything and without a scope you cannot chect the output signal
rest the ecu and see if the speedo works an a short run.

Under the passenger side of the das will be a blue plug with nothing pluged in to it

It will be clipped up with a white press in clip

Use a paper clip and short the 2 wires together

Turn the ignition on and the light in the dash should flas a code/ codes at you
A long flast for 10 and short flash is 1
So 21 would be long, long, short.

It might be time to pay a visit to your friendly neighbourhood honda dealer.

ha ha, my baby is back on the road!! Because the car is an import they have a converter wired next to the speed sensor, that was the problem. It had packed up, giving the same problems as if the speed sensor its self had packed up!! And the best thing is, i got the part cheap as chips, and the whole thing with diagnostics cost me 60 quid. So its a happy ending.
