Honda Accord (98-03) Advice
Discussion
Hi everyone,
I've been thinking about getting myself one as a daily commuter and putting the spare cash from the sale of my Golf towards something more interesting as a weekend car! The model i'm looking at is the following: http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/Data.aspx?mode... 1998-2003.
Wondered if anybody could tell me a little more about the engines and some quick any buying tips when i go looking? I know that Honda's are very reliable so i need to buy mostly on condition and service record. Is there much value in going for the bigger engines? Or is the 1.8 VTEC ok? I've seen a couple of nice 2.0 VTEC's around that look good. I loved the engine in my friends Civic Type R, are these different to the standard VTEC??
Must mention that i gotta have an Auto, a certain Mrs Eltax only has an Auto license!
Help greatly appreciated.

I had a July 2002 Accord 2.0VTEC (145bhp) SE from April 2003 to September 2006 and covered 44K miles. Only fault was a failed oxygen sensor which didn't stop me driving the car and was replaced by my Honda dealer. Great engine, nice gear-change but rather thirsty - not helped by the low overall gearing in 5th (4K revs is 85 in 5th). I only managed 31½mpg during my ownership. Insurance is low as car is only group 10. Big boot. Handled better than I expected for a family car.
