The main issue i know of is that it renders your license deeply vunlerable
Seriously though, I've heard gearbox and clutch can be weak points... but i guess it depends on how you treat it too. In particular synchros on the gears apparently, but I havent had any problems with mine.
Overall it seems quite reliable.
They do use a bit of oil if regularly caned, but as long as you keep an eye out then should be ok.
JDM models (imports) are slightly more powerful and have square headlamps instead of round ones. The 98-spec JDM is apparently the one to have (and the one I own). Comes with air con, bigger brakes and 16" alloys, which some of them dont.

The figures on the JDM models are largely due to the Japs having higher octane fun juice than us. The 98 spec JDMs do however have a better exhaust manifold that the earlier UK/JDM ones which does release some power.

They are a joy to own - practical, comfy recaros too, but turn into a road racer above 6000rpm with handling to match.
The UK ones are great, but if you have the cash, look for a Champ white 98 spec JDM. That's the one i'd have if I had to buy again.

I presume you are referring to the DC2 and not DC5?
The gearbox and clutch are the weak links mechanically. I had a new gearbox fitted at 80k miles. Brand new from Honda, including LSD: £1,400 (plus labour). Not too bad, I thought.
About 35k miles after the gearbox was fitted, the clutch broke, which is a common problem.
Other than that, it has been a joy to own! Mine has just clocked 120k miles, I've done over 30 trackdays and 50 laps of the Nurburgring, and it hasn't complained one bit. I also drive it every day to work and get over 30mpg.
I can't think of another car that you can buy for the same money that satisfies so many criteria (fast, fun, reliable, cheap to run).

As for things to watch out for, they are pretty much bullet proof. just be careful of abused examples. Use a reputable importer. Note these cars are import only and were never sold in the UK . Group 20 import insurance. I only pay about £600 though.
