Hi all,

I don't normally hang about these parts, but am toying with the idea of a change of car which has brought me to this part of the forum.

I have a well sorted Porsche 968 Sport, which is prepared as a track day car (see my profile if interested). I'm fancying a change, and whilst I'm very tempted by both a 964RS and 996 GT3, also like the idea of an NSX.

I've always really liked the look and idea of them, and the brand is more appealing to me than Porsche, but I have no first hand experience. My 968 is bloody good and I'm wondering if a NSX can offer much that the 968 can't.

I would use the car for both weekends and track days. Do track prepared cars exist already? If so, what mods should I be looking for? How do the standard cars do on the track? In reality, I think I'd be more drawn to something in the spirit of the NSX-R, but am aware they are rare and wondered if something in the same vein is often recreated through mods? Is there a particular model (other than "just" a 3.2 manual coupe) that is a better bet than something else?

Any advice much appreciated. I'm at the start of my learning curve.

Cheers, Will

1.You would need to uprate the brakes.
2.Suspension is a little soft for track use but still acceptable.
2.Avoid crashing at all costs! The thought of the bill for repairing that aluminium body makes me wince!

As a road car I think the NSX is in a league above the 968 but for regular track use I think I'd stick with the 968.

996 GT3 would obviously be the business on track

Do many people track NSX's? They strike me as potentially being very well suited, but obviously there's very few road cars with firm enough suspension or adequate brakes as standard. I would prefer to buy a car that's already been track prep'ed if possible.

Are there specific suspension and brake upgrades people deem to be best? If so, what should I be looking for?

I would suggest you look on the site : www.nsxcb.co.uk

There are a few members who use the NSX as a track car. Why don't you post your question on there.
As far as I know the comment by the trackers sre that nothing can touch them short of a GT3.

Cheers - I registered yesterday.

And there's nothing that can touch my 968 on track bar a GT3 (or 964 RS) either. Which is why I'm thinking maybe I should be looking at a GT3...

You'll pay >3X for less than a minor superior performance. I suspect it depends on how deep your pocket is.

Whilst I do think they are terrific cars, actually, I doubt an NSX is any quicker than a 968CS on track. There's loads of stuff quicker round a track than an NSX, including my old E36 M3 smile

If you want a pure track car buy the GT3.
