Hello everyone,
I currently have a Porsche....BUT....Looking at the Honda NSX's in the classified section I am very tempted by the seemingly low prices, I love the shape, the fact that the car is a 'supercar' and also that it is probably bulletproof due to be Japanese?.So milage not perhaps as much of an issue as it could be say in a Ferrari 355?
I guess my questions are, are they bulletproof and why are they so well priced...?

people still have a problem with the H on the bonnet, stupidly cheep for a hand made supercar, a few cars in america have done 200k miles and at least one over 300k miles, plenty of info at www.nsxcb.co.uk/

Are they bulletproof?: pretty much
Why so well priced?: Some ropy examples sub £20k, but very small market - must be the badge.
mileage is not much of an issue. Just watch out for a few of the common problems such as the climate control, the stereo amplifiers, electric window cables, and early water pumps. (details all on forums) Check the driver seat bolster leather for the true mileage, some will have been retrimmed. Most other electrics should be OK (?)
I've driven some ropey imports, so obviously don't believe any import mileage - buy on condition, and buy a manual.
They have more hp than quoted. Chiswick Honda reckon about 290 for the 3.0 at least; 320 for 3.2 - anyone got any hard figures and for torque as well? I'd say conservative 0-60 times too, not much slower than a 355 and much more flexible.

Just look at the date on the adverts. Is not like they are flying! Good NSXs do not often get advertise outside the club. Are they bulletproof: Almost a new clutch is about £ 1700.00 fully fitted! Most of the cars that are for sale her are either autos, have a cloudy past or are overpriced. Do not be taken by the temptation to buy cheap NSX. It is still a car that at one point sold for £ 70K and the parts are still dear as well as the service. ( about £ 70.00 an hour from Honda ) If you buy a dodgy one it might be hard to sell it too.

Indeed- watching yours pull length upon length against my 330bhp Supra was a bit of a shock.
Indeed. I rarely find myself wanting for more power - its quicker than 99% of othere traffic! Its pretty efficient aerodynamically too.... low frontal area, low overall drag factor.

I agree that you should buy a good one over a cheap one and buy on condition not age/price.... but new clutch doesn't cost quite that much. Fully fitted by NSX dealer, looking about £400 cheaper than that - still pretty steep though. Also annual service bill I think is cheap at only circa £150 - for a low volume supercar, I don't think the servicing/running costs are bad at all.... many day-to-day volume produced german sports saloons cost significantly more to run.Looks a bit cheap to me... i had one many years ago and from memory a new clutch and major service was about £2.5k .... However a great car !! I would however take issue with whoever said it is as fast as a 355 .... are you kidding ??? Have you driven both ??? The 355 is in a different league.. i should know, after 5 years of NSX ownership i replaced it with a 355.

Erm, yes I have driven both and have driven both with a friend across some A roads, roundabouts etc where it's mainly straight line speed. F355s aint that quick, they are quicker but not by a large margin and if anything (in my opinion) the NSX actually FEELS quicker (certainly to 8000rpm in first gear) but we all know that the way a car FEELS can be very deceptive.madras said:

It can, but at the end of the day isn't the 'feel' of a car more important than the stats?!?Wouldn't you rather have a 'fun'/weekend car that felt really rapid at sensible (license-keeping) speeds than a 'fun' car that could do Warp 9 while leaving you unruffled?!? Because at the end of the day how often do you race on a public road...
