Hi

I have a 53 reg S2k that I bought second hand about 6 months ago. I have not had any trouble with it until recently!!!

The alarm started to go off for no reason at all. I would go out and turn it off, but it would go off again about 10 mins later. This happened a few times but then today I was driving down a duel carriageway and the engine cut out. I still had all electrical functions, but the engine just went dead. I coasted to a stop and tried to restart the engine. There was no responce from the start button (the little red immobilisation light was not flashing). I waited for a few minutes, I tried to set the alarm but there was no response from the indicators. After a few attempts the indicator lights flashed and the alarm armed. I unarmed and started the car, IT WORKED!!!

I drove home and then ever since the alarm has been going off (even when it isn't set)!

Has anyone ever experienced this before?

YES, YES, YES !!!!

You're so bloody lucky you know. Really really bloody lucky! I think you should count your lucky stars you weren't thousands of miles from home on a fantastic driving holiday round Europe. I'd never been that far south in a car ever and just outside Rome... Clicky click click

What happened?
Leading up to the holiday (a few months before) the alarm would sound just as you said. Sometimes would not start as well.
It went into the dealer 3 times. The 2nd time it came back, it broke within an hour. The 3rd time seemed okay (after I ranted).
On the holiday (now too late to do anything) it played a few "funnies".
The day before it failed completely it was sounding all night in the car park. Starting was okay and it seemed well behaved.
20 miles into the drive that day it stuttered a bit, but I put it down to bad fuel. I bought some octane booster and plonked that in, but it made no difference.
The alarm then sounded as I was driving (but the car worked). I reset it.. and carried on.
When it went it just shut the car down completely whilst doing 100+ on the motorway.
Was clearly a fault with the anti-theft system.

The AA were completely incompetant... well that or just lying b'stards (but I suspect incompetant) and I had the car shipped back to the UK. It took the UK dealer 3 man days to fix, which involved new alarm, ECU and a chunk of wiring!

Apparently the new owner (who's had the car for 12 months) hasn't had a recurrance of the problem.

You *do* have a warranty don't you....?

Best of luck!

Ben

PS. I'm quite proud of my anti-AA rants as and after it broke here

happed to mine a while back, 2002 model, a wire going into the alarm box shorted out, I fixed it temporarily with a soldering iron and an extra fuse connected to it, but got a new/different alarm later. The alarms on 2002 and early 2003 are prone to this. If you have a warranty great, if not I recommend a different alarm as same can easily happen again.

I believe they were changed on the 04 facelift model meaning prob all 2003 have this alarm also, its not an official honda alarm but one that honda uk had fitted after the cars were officially imported over here.
