Hello,

I've just bought a 52 plate Accord 1.8 Sport with 39k on the clock

I picked it up on Friday and was pleased how silent the engine was at tickover.

Over the weekend a warbling type sound has appeared at tickover.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Rob

Is it like that only when cold or all the time?

That engine block is notoriously lumpy when it's cold, it's well worth getting an inspection done, especially if you're an "enthusiastic driver", cause if there is something wrong you could do quite a lot of damage if you VTEC it around. I'd drive steady and get it looked at ASAP.

To my knowledge, all Vtec engines have automatic cam belt tensioners.

It's going into the garage in the morning. It's first noticed when the engine comes off choke

Thanks for the replies

Took it in this morning

Work this one out

You can hear it in the cabin but not under the bonnet.

They're going to have it in next week

Hmm, not heard of that one before.

My old '99 1.8 Accord is still running fine with 240,000 miles on the clock.

My Prelude does that once it's warmed up. I'd always assumed it was something to do with the induction kit.

Would be interested to know what your garage says...

The garage had a look at it and tightened some components around the bulkhead.

It was quieter for a day, then started again. It's weird because it's inaudible under the bonnet but drives me nuts from inside the cabin

Ive got a 2001 accord type r with 70k which has been making the same noise for about 6 months now. You can def hear it in the engine bay though, it seems to be coming from the front of the engine block on mine.
I had wondered if it might be the cambelt tensioner as they're supposed to sound like a diesel when they go and this might just be the start of it?
