Hi

I'm thinking of buying one after looking for a bit more practicality compared to a S1 Lotus Elise and have a rough budget of 11k.

1st off, is it better to avoid 99 cars as they were one of the first i believe and some had a few niggles, so im thinking it is better to buy as new as poss.

I have seen a 02 GT car with hard top but has 82k on the clock which is a lot. Now i know they are bullet proof but what sort of mileage is it where things start to need to be replaced? eg: Elise's are hard to shift if you go over 55k, is there a similar thing for S2000's

cheers

85k is nothing on a honda S2000 engine with fsh, if its a good price go for it....

I'd rather have a well looked after late plate car with big miles than an older but low mileage example, far better value for money and newer = less things start failing, inspite of being bigger miles.

Have driven one S2000 with 100k plus and it had taken its miles very well, felt no different to my own 50k miles car at that time.

Integra Type R's are also very resiliant to miles, have driven 100k plus Integras felt as tight and crisp as a 60k mile example, Honda's are VERY well made.

Older S2000's do have some engine issues, there were recals for things to do with oil circulation in the block, I know of one car that threw a rod, so newer with bigger mileage is a good plan.

Personally I went for a slightly older late 2001 with 44k on the clock absolutley mint from main dealer, however apparently they do stand up to big miles so it wouldn't really worry me.

One reason I got mine is it has every stamp from the same dealer so know its full history.

that's good to know. the car I have seen is a red 02 GT with hard top 82k for £11,500 from a dealer which I thought was a bit on the cheap side and put it down to the mileage.

what's your initial thoughts on this and is there anything I should be aware of?

Hard top is worth £800 easy, does still sound like a good deal, just check for the usual!

My dad is in the trade a found a 52 plate 50k miles in grey for £12,300, was cheap because had loads of paint! Just be aware, find a good one and you sould be OK. Some on s2ki have mega miles on theirs.

S2ki.co.uk would be a good place to ask the question. As has been said, Hondas are a lot better screwed together than most cars, and do last. But at 82k you might want to think about things like dampers, bushes, possibly synchro. Engine will probably be only-just run-in though!

Yeah it'll be the mileage. I couldn't shift my 65k 03 at 13k a couple of months ago, so I've decided to keep it.

don't think there is any issue with higher mileage. Just ensure it has a full service history, and if an older car, check that the recalls are all completed where appropriate.
