Right, my new Years resolution was to start playing with my car. The first things I'm going ahead with are exhaust and induction kit (I'm thinking HKS)and decat the exhaust to get rid of the drone, Also to get a brace fitted as I've heard this can make one of the biggest differences. As for the exhaust, I know that going to a single pipe will give the best performance increase but I really like the look of the twins (and I've never had twins in any sense of the word) so i'd like to keep them.

Firstly, anyone got any advice on the above? Secondly, anyone know anything about chipping the engine? is it a good idea/bad idea and how much will it cost me. Also, any ideas on the power gains I can expect from these mods?

Cheers for any advice you can give me.

Chipping in any particular sense doesn't really exist for the S2000 as it is already revving very high and has a pretty stretched engine. There are no easy power gains to be had apart from fitting a supercharger or turbo (not so common) which is not easy and can create all sorts of problems! oh and think 4k+!

A HKS exhaust and or induction kit may release a few horse but not much. Cheaper induction kits will knock a few off! There are a fair amount of exhausts available but think about drone and commuting etc etc Losing weight works too and a few Mugen bits!

You may want to take a trip over to www.s2ki.com then navigate to the UK forums which will show that its a long and difficult road to get alot more out of an S2000!

So you've only one plum then? yikes
Tough break that is.

The VTEC unit is not easily modified - you could look at Hondata possibly.
The easiest way of liberating some performance is exhaust and airbox, and flywheel.
There's plenty of tuning and handling kit that'll give you a sore head trying to remember who does what!

Feel's, Amuse, Greddy, Apexi, JRacing, Jun, Mugen, Spoon, Gruppe M, and the list goes on.

I thought as much and must admit I was more concerned that I might put something on and lose power(I've heard that this occurs when the lid to the filter is removed). Did look into the supercharger, the Americans seem to go in for that more than us but seemed to bee too unreliable and expensive. Think I'm better off with a decent induction kit and the exhaust for now.

Guess thats what you get when you have something engineered to the max!

yep a loss of 2-3hp although a small price to pay for the sound! ;-)

If you want to save a little cash there are always exhausts and induction kits for sale on S2ki.com although they tend to go quite quickly as they are the cheapest and easiest mods.

Thanks for the advice gents. I'll see what I can get hold of and will let you know how it goes.

Paid a trip to first lotus last year when I got the car. Probably the best money I've ever spent to get more out of a motor to be honest.

probably best left as it came out the factory!

S2000 would be a lot better if it had some extra lower or mid range power (so you dont have to change down two gears just to get things on the boil) but the cost of a super charger or turbo charger conversion is hardly likely to be worth it, just buy a quicker alternative like an M BMW?

Lighter flywheel will help overcome the lack of mid-range grunt.
Plenty of stuff can be fitted by the likes of Toda, Feels, Spoon, Mugen, Skunk2, etc.

[O/T]
Accord 2.4 here - been thinking of doing this myself as the 2 cog drop to hit VTEC for overtaking is a pin in the bum.
That said, if only Hondata had their system sorted for the K24 EMCU we have rather than just the Acura TSX's, then we'd have VTEC kicking in at 5K instead of 6.

Yep very true apart from exhaust and a few little mods to help her breathe a bit better.

Changing down and working the gear box is all part of the fun/attraction of the the car - hence why it has one of the best gearboxes in the world! ;-)

M3 or M5? Price really isn't in the same category is it!!!

Thats the problem with the S2000 - You either "get it or you don't!!"

I agree !!! I had a year old Scooby WRX PPP until just before Christmas when I bought an S2000 ..... the Scooby was more practical, just as reliable, easier to drive, quicker and - more boring ! I just didn't get the buzz I get everytime I drive the S .... it is so much more involving.
