Honda Civic 1.8 Vti - Induction Kit worth it?
Discussion
All,
Just got myself a 1998, 1.8 Civic Vti and wondered whether an induction kit would help with releasing an extra couple of ponies from under the bonnet.
Anyone have any prior knowledge as to the most popular / benficial modifications to make to this engine.
As far as my research has shown the engine seems pretty bullet proof, but does anyone know if they are prone to anything? (The belts have all been done and the service record is excellent).
Would appreciate any advice.
(I have found alot of tuning info on the web for the 1.6 engine but less for the 1.8)
Thanks in advance
Try on Honda-R, assuming there're still some tech-heads on there (not been on for a couple of years, used to be a very good resource).
If it's anything like the other B-series engines, induction won't do a lot, exhaust mods will do a bit more.
Best bet if you really want some more power (not cheap) is:-
- Good exhaust
- Thinner head-gasket to up compression a bit
- After-market cams (or even stock DC2 cams to improve a VTi)
- A-market ECU to take advantage of the changes
...and while you're at it some throttle-bodies off say a Fireblade.
Alternatively stick a turbo/supercharger on it, because the trouble with performance VTECs is they're damn expensive to tune-up!
