S2K mod issues
Discussion
I bought my S2000 way back in march and have had a huge amount of fun with the standard spec car during the summer. However, now that winter approaches I have decided to tinker a little and am looking to replace the exhaust and install some sort of induction kit. I've had a look around and it seems that the HKS exhaust system would suit best (I think ?!?!), but I aren't sure which induction kit to go for or if I'm better putting the money into something else.
The key thing is that I don't sacrifice the performance for asthetics.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

What are you looking for? CAI? Snorkel? Manifold?
Various things around. AEM CAI is popular for noise, gains are disputable. Gruppe M replacment airbox is expensive but does have proven gains, even if not as much as the manufacturer claims. My personal opinion is that unless you have a lot of money to spend, replace parts for weight and noise. Or just take your airbox cover off. I don't like the slight power loss, but it sounds brilliant in a tunnel.
www.s2ki.co.uk has a lot of good info.

Yeah, I saw the gruppe m for about £1300 which I don't really want to stretch to at the moment. I did see a HKS kit for around £400 which I don't mind going for. Exhaust wise, I understand that the power gains are minimal, I am more concerned about going for a sportier sound at the expense of losing power losing power.
It's the first time I've had a car that I want to take care with modding, I used to slap anything on but think this one deserves better.
When it comes down to it, I have about 1.5k to spend on mods and aren't sure what to spend it on. Was looking at some wheels but I think that would be a bit of a waste when there's so much more I could get that can make a bigger difference!
I agree, I had the cover off for a while and it improved the tunnel experiance significantly, although they already sound awsome over 7k revs in an underpass!

To get gains from an exhaust you really have to go to a single exit exhaust, which IMO spoils the rear of the S. I have an HKS Hi Power Silent and I think it sounds great.
Plenty of intakes available, all depends on what sort of noise you want. A few do improve the performance, but some actually lead to a drop in power. As chilled says, post on www.s2ki.co.uk and you'll get a lot of advice.

Got an HKS, not sure which model but I know they don't make it any more. Love it
I don't like the louder air intakes personally as I hate the noise coming from the front. Got a mugen style snorkel which hasn't gone on yet. If anything I'd replace the air intake to reduce the bogging down you get in traffic.

Hi - I was in the same boat as you and having had the S2000 for 8 months plunged into my first mod.
I opted for the Spoon N1 exhaust in the end. Initially I was against the Single exhaust set up, but combination of weight saving and being considered one of the best bang for bucks exhausts, I took the plunge (at about £600). I've been very happy with it - it's certainly louder and sportier - especially with the de-cat. However, it can be too loud for some.
I have also ordered the K&N Gen II induction kit which should arrive by the end of the week. Again, having researched S2ki I thought it was the best value for what I wanted and also had none of the hydrolock issues of the AEM.
Next on the agenda are the wheels, but the choice is very limited if you are on a budget. Although Rare Rims sell the spoon copies called the Slipstreams which are on my current list.
Be carefull though, once you make that first mod its incredibley difficult to stop!

Thanks for the advice, the S2K site seems to have plenty of useful info so I'll post on their forums as well. I have looked at a single pipe option but I think I'm too attached to the look of the twins. As for wheels, i had a look at some 18" katos which seemed to suit. Did look at a car with a Spoon on before I bought mine. Sounds awsome but, as you say, may be a bit too loud!
Hi If you want loads of droon then go for Exuast,But i prefere the noise when i wish!!IE,put your foot down and loads of it come from my AEM as regard to hydro lock never had it!!its just chat!Been out in many a down fall and never been bothered by it!but as regard to sound its great!
