Honda 2008 Type r GT - price range help

Hey Folks,
Just looking for a bit of advice as I'm looking to buy a Honda Type r GT, my car knowledge is not the best so hopefully some of the guru's can help me out.
So it's a 2.0 i-VTEC Type R GT 3dr 2008 and from what I can see it does look in fantastic condition and I used an app called "Know Your Car" so I can see the full MOT history which is great, looks pretty decent and the last few MOT's are all good, the garage are throwing in a full 12 month road tax as well which is around £390 I believe?
So the price they have it for and they won't really budge is £4500, we buy any car shows the car is valued at around £2000 so just looking for some advice on what I should look out for and if this range is a good deal or not so much?

It'll depend on mileage and condition, but doesnt sound too steep. Prices of these are rising (about time too, they are really good). For £4.5k I'd ideally want a slightly later one with an LSD. Worth noting though that £2k is an incorrect and low estimate from that app.
I bought a slightly tatty 150k mile one at the beginning of 2020 for £2200. I'd expect to pay a grand more than that now.

The standard 18" wheels for these are cheap, as they are fairly heavy and are often binned off. The 19" factory rage wheels are worth more, but still not a fortune. Besides, powder coating them if they're really bad probably wouldn't cost much more than £300-£400.
These are pretty reliable, if you've got the cash and you think it's decent, I'd buy it. I think you'd maybe save £500-£1000 buying private, but if you're having to travel 5 hours I can't imagine they are common near you.

What is RFL? it's Black and I don't see any mention of mods and thanks for the heads up on the timing chain I will ask if that has been changed recently as well as no mention of this being changed in the description, how often should that chain be changed (googled and shows around 100k+ really?) and is it costy to do? What colour is it? Any mods?

The paint is extremely thin so expect the front to the peppered with stone chips and the paint lacquer will likely start to peel in places. Also if the suspension hasn't had an overhaul then budget for new shocks and springs all round.
Mine is an 09 model on 97k and all of the above has happened to mine within the last few years, I've had it over 8 years now and it's been extremely reliable but do not expect anything in terms of technology.

Ref the chain, I would guess it’s probably not been done. I’ve just done the one on my civic but it’s 21 years old and done nearly 150k and was only stretched a little. Probably a £700 job but not something you need to do urgently.
Personally, I would buy one closer than I can go and see touch, drive etc. it’s not like they’re thin on the ground, especially in black!

Hey thanks for the info, great to know these sort of things especially when I've never went for a sport model like this before. How much we talking to replace them all? kit cost and a rough price for a mechanic to do it?

Ah ok yeh they will be providing a full 12 months road tax and again that is great to know so I should be fine keeping the factory chain on it for another while. Hi, you PM’d me, happy to give my view based on the adverts, but I’m not a Civic expert! I have a S2000.
For me the first is the best. I can’t see anything obviously amiss, it has a Bridgestone Potenza tyre (better than a budget tyre - you could phone and ask if all four tyres match) and someone has put a bit of money into it (exhaust, Bluetooth). I love the colour, but beware it is a dark bronze - it’s not black. Some people will hate it…
The second looks ok, but they have managed to avoid photographing the drivers seat outer side bolster. Is it worn?…
The third looks the worst of the bunch to me. Yellowed fog lights, curbed black wheels (what’s the point of having them already black if they’re already curbed?), messy wires and wonky gear knob. Yes, trivial things but if those have been missed…
This is just my view based on the ads. Obviously you can see much more in the flesh and work out just how “full” or “excellent” the service histories are. At this age and mileage prepare to be disappointed, but good luck. Hopefully one will meet your needs.

I sold mine last year, so not sure how relevant the pricing would be today, but for what its worth, I got £5250 for it, a 2010 model - GT Trim like the ones you are listing, and around 98k on the clocks.
Very important, when you go to look at them. Check for rust above the windscreen seal, its a very common problem on these, they had a 10 year body work warranty, but Honda were reluctant to fix this & owners had to push to have it done, so have a good look across the top of the windscreen.
A squeaky clutch pedal is annoying, but common, it seems to come from the clutch cylinder itself.
Cars are generally rattle free, but suspension can creak at times, especially on really cold days.
Unfortunately ride comfort on UK roads is a bit uncomfortable with these, people say its because of the solid rear axle suspension, but I'm not convinced, plenty of comfortable cars used them in the past, and some of the best handling hot hatches have used a similar setup.
Not much else I can add, mine was very reliable and I in the time I had it, nothing but routine maintenance was needed.

From memory about £120 for a Sachs shock (they make the OEM part) springs not much, maybe £40-50 each? I would guess 3-4 hours to do all 4. How much we talking to replace them all? kit cost and a rough price for a mechanic to do it?

I think they’re silver alloys on the first (brown) car, but they’re clean and the sun is shining.
Read the terms of any warranty very carefully. There may be an excess, there will be a claims limit and there will be exclusions. Won’t cover wear and tear for example.
I always prefer low mileage, but to be honest, at 100k+ it’s neither here nor there. Much more important to buy on condition and care.

Ahh yeh think you're right the way the sun is bouncing off them sort of makes it a look a bit white initially, looks in great condition so gonna be a tough one between the sort of dark brown one (1st) and the black one (2nd), 1st does have 16k more mileage though but like you say if the condition is great then should be fine. A few questions I was gonna ask the dealer about with regards to what has been done/checked I will list below, let me know if you guys think I should be asking anything else when I call.
1.Has suspension been overhauled.
2. Any rust on the underside or wheel arches of the car.
3. will check the seal along the top of the window for rust myself when there
4. make sure it's good tyres on the car i.e. ponteza's/Goodyears/michelins etc
5. does it come with road tax as that's 400 bucs
6.Has the timing chain/tensioner ever been changed (probably not as big of a deal here as folk change it around 120-150k I think? and Honda do say it never really needs changed? seen an video of a changed chain and the difference was millimetres between a new and a 100k+ used one.
If springs/bolts have never been done for the suspension then I guess try get the car for a few hundred lower to factor in that cost as I'd imagine the car will need the suspension done for that age and as for wear and tear I should just expect chips and some scratches etc as standard.

So a quick update below as I called to ask some questions regarding car 1 & 2.
So the 1st car the guy said they are just a show room and would only do a standard MOT when the car is sold, guy said no mechanic has done a check over on the car so no idea on springs/bolts and what the underside of the car looks like..... It does look pretty good condition from the pics but ofcourse not very good that they haven't had a mechanic do a once over on it other than them saying the last MOT was good. He also mentioned they are "probably" going to swap all the tyres which are potenza's and they are super close to legal limit and it will be standard tyres they are replaced with and if I wanted goodyears or potenza's fitted I need to pay the extra for those over the standard.
The MOT history on the 1st car is actually great, a ton of passes with little to zero advisory parts until the last MOT a couple of months ago which flagged up all 4 tyres needing replaced as all close to legal limit.
The 2nd car the guy said the underside looks fine however there are some dents and scratches on the body and he is going to get the car jacked up for a mechanic to check over it.
So I'm thinking I just show up and look at the 1st car myself and just take it from there, guy said the 1st car gets a 1month warranty so if anything like gearbox or back axle went they cover it so I could get the 1st car then get a local mechanic to check over it for me.
What do you guys think?
