Decat my own EP3 Civic Type R car to beat theives ?
Discussion
There have been a number of Catalytic convertor thefts locally to me, and they seem to have stopped targeting just Toyota Aurui and Lexus cars and started on other Japanese cars - with early 2000's cars seeming particularly popular.
Given the damage they have done to other cars, it would probably write off my car, which would be a shame as it took me a long time to find this one.
I have though about a cat loc, but it seems de-cat pipes are commonly available cheaper.
Worth de-catting the car ? Will it pass the MOT tests still ? I could always swap in the cat for MOT but would prefer to sell.

The only thing with N/A decat's is how loud they are.Given the damage they have done to other cars, it would probably write off my car, which would be a shame as it took me a long time to find this one.

Turbo it and then decat.
There was a recent post in a local owners group with someone having their EP3 cat stolen.
Would probably be worth speaking to a decent fabricator - I'd have thought they could remove the cat, add some flanges to it / the pipe so you could have a bolt in / out cat -> straightpipe for MOT purposes, to save you from finding a friendly tester.

I see your logic. It may well still pass the MOT. I used to have a decatted 200sx and as long is it was running well with no boost leaks and correct fuelling, it would still pass emissions at MOT.
Unless it was pre-1994 it shouldn't have. The CTR in the OP will not pass with no cat.
A lot of people are removing the cat on their EP3, selling them for £800-850 and buying a replacement 200-400 Cel cat.
An EP3 won’t pass an MOT without a cat, it’ll also throw the EML on. You’d be far better off buying a £250-£300 200-400cel cat from Japspeed or Tegiwa. These will pass an MOTs apparently. I’m tempted to do the same for my EP3, but still need to be convinced a third party cat is built to a high enough standard, whereas the OEM has done 16 years without issues

This is a bit of a worry, but the thing is, by the time someone’s jacked up your car in a hurry and bent the sill (do they really take the time to find the jacking point?) surely the damage is done. Only then do they see the cat has been changed.
NO CATS LEFT ON THIS VEHICLE OVERNIGHT griffter said:

Well yes, but at least they won’t then take the £800 cat as well as bending the sill.Gassing Station | Honda | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
