Hi all,
the temp gauge on my 09 type r seemed to be stuck at zero last time I drove it (it had sat for a couple of weeks before). The car appeared to get up to temperature just fine, everything was hot, rad was hot etc, hot air from the cabin vents etc..., but gauge still read zero.

I turned it off, had a fiddle with what I think is the temp sensor wire (top rear right side of the block, blue connector on a large brass hex plug behind what looks like the thermo housing), then turned the ignition back on and the gauge straightaway went to just below 50% (it's usual hot position).

I sprayed some contact cleaner on the removed plug and connector, then plugged it in out out a few times etc... to disturb any corrosion, but I'm not 100% sure if that's the only possible cause - is it possible for the actual temp sender to intermittently work, if so how does that show itself - resetting when the ignition is turned off and on? Could a stuck thermostat display these symptoms? (that one seems unlikely to me - i would expect the car to still show a temp reading on the dash).
