Gen4 2.2 diesel EX. 2014 with 40k and ongoing use is 8k p.a. I need the 500 mile range, largish loadspace and occasional 4WD.

Genuine question. Had been planning to take it to the 15 year point and replace with something similar but, thanks to the recent government announcement, it looks like there won't be anything similar about then. What chance will I likely have to take it to the 25 year point (I'll probably be of an age to quit driving then)?

After all, it's a Honda....

Aside from any other factor (and there are quite a few) the chances of it being roadworthy in another 25 years without at least a once yearly blitz on rustproofing are very slim. Look underneath any 10 year old CR-V that has a fair mileage on it and it is
just crusted to bits. Imagine one at 30 year old.

There is that to it but do MOT garages still do welding repairs these days? I'd be quite happy to pay a few £'s each year getting some new steel spliced in underneath and that would also help to support the local economy. The bodywork would be more of a worry but I'm guessing it should hold up well with plastic bumpers, wheel arches and sill covers.

Mileage wise 25 years use would only hit 200,000 for me and I'd guess engine and drive train ought to be good for that?

A friend of mine did run a 30 year old Landcruser for a while without any problems (I know the CR-V isn't that solid though - I would have bought a Landcruiser but my wife wouldn't allow it as she thinks they are too big!).

It's more the unknowns - will older ICE cars be taxed off the road/will diesel still be available at an affordable price/will ICE cars be blocked from entering places other than cities, etc?
