FK8 Type-R Owners
Discussion
Seeing as the 2021 review thread is quite busy, there are enough owners on here to have a thread dedicated to our car.
Here is mine:
I bloody love it, the only two issues I have are little niggles.
1) The dash vibrates at 4500rpm, and I can't pin it down as to where it's coming from, does anybody else have this
2) When off the throttle there is a sound from the front right wheel that sounds like something is dragging on the disc, again, can't pin it down, but it's an annoying note.
Otherwise I love it, but we don't have a thread on here for owners to share tips and generally live in an echo chamber about how much we love these things!!
Feel free to post at will without the typical "I wouldn't drive something that looks like that..." comments in every 3rd post

I quite like the 2021 thread, Gives an opportunity to rub pictures in the faces of the boring people :PWith regards to the rattle, I've dealt with a few; Did It myself rather than take it to Honda. There's a few places to check:
- The A pillar where it meets the screen
- The Center speaker
- The part of the center console just above / left of the dead pedal (Reach as far in as you can!)
Those would be my suspects for the 4.5K rattle :P
As for the sound from the wheel, Probably a stone - My trick for stones on this is find a double lane road, and do 0 - 40 - 0 whilst swerving hard side to side (VSA light should be on!) - Do that for 200m and you'll clear the stones - It's far more fun than faffing with tools or pressure washers too.
I've got a full thread on my car over on CTRO:
https://type-r-owners.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?...
I've done a few bits to it, all listed there - Intakes, shifter changes, a touch of extra power etc

Thanks, I'll have a look. It's a bit tricky as I have to do it whilst driving due to the soft limiter! With regards to the rattle, I've dealt with a few; Did It myself rather than take it to Honda. There's a few places to check:

That would probably explain it then! - I take it you've seen the new 2 piece discs can be ordered from Cox etc. for ~£250? - Those should be decent for track use, and I'm reasonably sure the change in pad / disc is where Honda made the 15% dead travel improvement on the brake pedal, so it may feel better too.

Love these. Have seriously considered getting my other half one for her 40th but the lack of a third seat in the rear is a big stumbling block. Seems strange that Honda chose to do that when it’s supposed to be a performance car that can be used as a practical daily/family car.
It is possible to add the seat, but there are a number of insurance etc. considerations in the UK: https://www.civicx.com/forum/threads/civic-type-r-...As mentioned further on in that thread, it seems to be more a consideration of weight capacity in the car; Checking my weight plate,
Max Gross weight: 1760Kg
Max Train weight: 0 (No towing of course!)
Max Front Axle: 1000Kg
Max Rear Axle: 800Kg
The unladen weight is Approx 1400Kg, which with the 60 / 40 weight distribution leaves only 240Kg of rear axle loading, so your passengers need to be rather thin, and not much in the boot!
I have, on occasion, taken a passenger in the middle seat - Of course, it was only a short distance etc. etc - You'd have to be seen by a very well sighted (Tinted rear) and very knowledgable traffo to be pulled, so it is somewhat feasible "in emergencies"

Yeah luckily I picked up a set back in the summer, knowing I’d need them at some point. I expect they’ll hold up better.Just ordered a set of the 2020 pads to bed them in and for the road. I use pagid RSL29’s for the track.
Love ours, nearly 2 years in, and it has been faultless. Handles, go's and stops brilliantly. Bought it with a 5yr service pack and 5 year warranty, strong resale too, it really is cheap and fun motoring. Now debating whether to get a tune to unleash some torque - considering the Superchips tune that was developed for Honda a couple of years ago.

The horn in my car sounds like something out of a kids toy, is that just mine or are we all equipped with such a useless thing?
I've changed mine to Hella Supertones; Easily done - Just pop off the front grille, and you can bolt them in on the factory points (Takes a bit of jiggling, but they'll fit) There are adapters avaliable on Amazon, though I'd suggest you order more than you need as a couple that I got seemed to be DOA.
Big improvement - Physical pain for anyone in front of the car
